If you remember doing crayon rubbings as a child, you’ll love this updated technique using a stencil! Instead of rubbing over textured surfaces like we did back then, you can place a stencil under your paper and use Gelatos, pastels, or even crayons to create beautiful, detailed patterns. This technique adds a fun, artistic touch to backgrounds, journal pages, and mixed media projects. It’s an easy and nostalgic way to bring texture and depth to your crafting!

For this technique, I used Marabu Art Crayons, which worked beautifully for creating layered texture and depth. I started with a rubbing for the first layer, then blended it with water to soften the effect and create a smooth background. Once it dried, I added a second layer of rubbing in a different color to enhance the design and bring out more dimension. The result is a rich, textured look that combines the nostalgic feel of crayon rubbings with a modern mixed-media twist!

Here’s a close-up look at the tag with all the layered elements in place! You can see how the different colors and textures come together, adding depth and dimension to the design. The combination of the Marabu Art Crayons, stencil rubbings, and blended layers creates a unique, artistic effect. This technique is a great way to elevate simple tags into something truly special for mixed media projects, journaling, or gift embellishments!
