How to Make Embossing Powder Film

How to make film from embossing powder.

cards

After seeing a tutorial on YouTube, I gave this technique a try. I made a film out of embossing powder to craft with. You can use the film in different ways while crafting, I used them to make two different cards.

materials

To make the film you will need a few different colors of embossing powder. I chose to use all the same brand of powders so the heating time was the same. Parchment paper is used to sandwich the powder. Once heated with a heat gun, a metal palette knife will assist in removing the film from the paper.

Once made, the film will appear dull on one side. If you want a glossy look, you need to heat it again without the parchment paper. Be warned that holes will begin to happen so you will want to use low heat or a large distance between the film and the heat source.

film closeup

This is a close-up image of one of the cards. You can see the detail in the embossing powder film, the glossy surface, as well as holes that are created when heating the surface. To adhere them to the card, any kind of adhesive will work.

Here are the close-ups of the two cards made with the embossing film. The film is delicate, handle it with care. I suggest making it as you need it rather than making some and trying to store it.

Gift Card Box with Makers Movement

Making a gift box for use with a gift card with the Makers Movement. #sponsored @jointhemakersmovement

I am making a gift card box with a die from the Makers Movement. It is part of the Donut Box set. The donut box die has a coordinating stamp set making them so useful. No longer will you need to buy packaging for a gift card. You can make your own gift box and stylize it for the occasion.

The Donut Box die and stamps work together so well and can be used in a variety of different ways. Aren’t those donut stamps cute? They have coordinating dies to cut them out!

I planned on using the Special Delivery stamp as a surprise under the gift card inside the box but I totally forgot about it until after I was finished with the gift card box! – Oh well, next time.

CrossOver II from the Makers Movement was used with the Donut Box dies to cut the card stock. Be sure to check out the tip in the video tutorial below, I am not sure the die is meant to be used this way, but it worked for me. (notice the washi tape)

I wonder how you would use this die and stamp set? If for a gift card as I did, what card you would include? Let me know in the comments below.

Optional:

  • Embelli gelli
  • tweezers

Directions:

Cricut Maker

To begin I used my Cricut Maker to cut out the word hello three times from blue cardstock. The reason for three times was to add some height to the word when placed on the plaque. Once cut out, I glued the three layers together.

Working with Maker’s Movement today I am making a layered border card. Using only one die from the Borders Die Set, I achieved this beautiful activity on the front of the card. The cardstock is created by brushing Distressed Oxide onto each layer before using the die.

Creating a Fun Layered Tag with Maker’s Movement

I am sharing how I made this layered tag using Maker’s Movement products. The dies, the stamps, even the die cutting machine are all from Maker’s Movement. I like the different patterns of the paper layered on top of each other. The tag die set comes with a variety of different sizes, I used the three smaller dies. This tag would pair nicely with a gift from the kitchen for someone special as well as a great way to say thank you with an edible gift!

To finish off the tag, I added a sheer ribbon and used a white paint pen to fill in the icing on the cupcake and a black marker to add cute quote marks around the saying.

How to Make Ribbon Flowers

These Ribbon Flowers are very versatile. You could use them as craft embellishments or how about for clips in girl’s hair? I found them to be very comforting and peaceful to make, maybe even more therapeutic for me than for their final use.
