The close-up image shows how the double-layered paper appears embedded by the embossing. The cutout circles remind me of a compass and now I think the word wander would have been a great choice! Have you tried this technique?

Recycled Tag

Tag it Tuesday

finished tag

Recycle and up-cycle are nice words for trash. In this tutorial, we are using trash to create a tag. Craft materials don’t have to be fancy and if you keep your eyes open, you can find a lot of different materials for free. The tag base is from a Kleenex box and the decoupage element is a layer from a napkin.

The close-up image shows the detail and texture created by the layers. The pattern on this box is so nice, that I am going to die-cut some shapes and keep them for future projects.

What free (or trash) items have you used in your crafting?

DIY Resist Spray Tag

Tag it Tuesday

final tag

This week’s tag is a variety of mixed media. Beginning with DIY resist spray and ink smooshing. Then add ephemera in coordinating colors to finish the tag.

To make your own DIY Resist Spray, follow my tutorial here: [Resist Spray]

In the above close-up image, you can see how well the colors of ink and ephemera coordinate together.

As I mentioned in the video, the ink and resist made a beautiful image. The above close-up shows the ink and resist detail and how well the Resist Spray worked.

Tag it Tuesday with Gelatos

gelato tag

This week’s Tag it Tuesday uses Gelatos in two different techniques. Gelatos are a smooth soft crayon-like product that can mix with water and blend easily with or without water. I added some plastic netting for texture (that photographs oddly) and a simple piece of ephemera to finish off the tag.

Video Tutorial:

detail of tag

In the detailed photo above, you can see the plastic netting a bit better and the dimension it created. The tag this week was pretty simple and quick to make but I am happy with the result.

Gone Fishing – Tag it Tuesday

final fish tag

This week’s tag uses a fun paint bubble technique for the background which is fun to do. Then I added printable images to finish it off with a fun fishing theme.

If you would like the free fish printable you can download it here: [Fish.pdf]

The words are from a printable available in the shop. I printed it out on sticker paper and just cut out the words as I use them. You can purchase the printable here [Art Words]

Tag it Tuesday – Alternative Stencil Tag

final tag

This week’s Tag it Tuesday uses a stencil in an alternative way. The alteration comes from last week’s stencil tag. The technique came from a way I was cleaning off my stencils after making the tag last week.

both tags

Here are both tags so you can see the variation between the two.

The close-up image of the finished tag shows so much detail. You can see the layering of the stencil images, the stamped word, and the addition of the glitter to the tag.

Double Stencil Technique

Tag it Tuesday

final tag

This week’s Tag it Tuesday uses a double stencil technique. Using two stencils, one larger than the other. and two inks, one darker than the other. This double stencil technique offers a lot of variety. Next week’s Tag it Tuesday post will be a variation of this process.

Using Handmade Stash – Tag it Tuesday

finished tag

I originally made these materials for a project and then went in a different direction. So I decided to use them this week for Tag it Tuesday. I collaged the painted book page and then added the coordinating watercolor-painted flowers.

Let’s Try an Embossing Technique

Tag it Tuesday

final tag

This is an interesting way to alter the use of your embossing plates. I have done this process before with better results using a different machine. Experimenting with the amount of pressure does affect your results. What we want to have happen is only to emboss part of the piece.

materials

Here are the materials I grabbed to work on this tag. There is always a way to salvage your process even though the result is different from your intended first direction. This week is an example of going with the flow.

Video Tutorial:

The close-up image shows the detail of the ink applied to the tag as well as the gold flecks. These correlate to the gold on the butterfly wings.

Transfer Decal – Tag it Tuesday

transfer tag

For this week’s Tag it Tuesday, I started with a transfer decal from the Dollar Tree. They are rather easy to work with but if you have never done so, there are a few things to know. After transferring the image, the image was enhanced with colored pencils.

materials

The best way to work with a transfer decal is to cut out the image you want to work with from the full sheet of decals. Washi tape can assist in holding the transfer in place because you don’t want it to move or shift during the transfer process.
