Fairy Card with Heart Stems

Follow along to make this fairy card with heart stems. Lots of techniques included.

Today I am working with a stamp from Fairy Hugs called Alexa. She is joyful and playful so I added an array of three different colored heart stems behind her to amplify her action. The card doesn’t have a sentiment. I like leaving them blank until later so the card can be used for a variety of different occasions. I can always add a sentiment but changing one isn’t that easy.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

Ways to Stamp Texture

Learn fun stamping techniques with Fairy Stamper stamps.

with Fairy Stamper

I enjoy creating my own textured papers using a variety of different techniques. For my Fairy Stampers Video Design post this month, I used a bulrushes stamp in different ways to create the background paper for my card. Another Fairy Stampers stamp was used for the sentiment. This was a fun card to make.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

The card came together in a two-step process. The first was creating the background, and the second was creating the sentiment strip.

stamping sentiment

After embossing the cardstock, the sentiment was stamped on top. Since the embossed cardstock has texture, the stamp needed to be applied more than once.

Once the parts of the card were made, it was time to put it all together. A tape runner and foam tape were used.

card close-up

Here is a close-up shot of the card so you can see the texture and misting spray as well as the raised sentiment. You can really see how the colors work together in this image.

How to Foil Your Stamping

Learn how to foil your stamped images with this special technique.

You can make your own foiled embellishments with this fun and relaxing technique. Using DecoFoil and a rubber stamp you create your image, and then use watercolors to finish coloring the images. The foil acts as a resist for the watercolor leaving its glimmer behind.

  • rubber stamp
  • stamp block
  • cardstock
  • DecoFoil
  • DecoFoil transfer adhesive pen
  • Derwent Inktense pencils
  • Yatsutomo Metallic watercolor paints
  • paintbrush
  • mini Maker – optional

Since we are using an adhesive product on your stamp, you might want to use an older or less expensive stamp. It is very important to thoroughly clean off your stamp with soap and water after using this technique.

It is really difficult to capture the beauty of these pieces on camera due to the reflective nature of the foil. The watercolor and foil together make for a very unique combination. I think this is one of my favorite techniques to create. Probably more for the enjoyment of the process but the outcome is pretty nice too!

Can You Stamp on Glass?

Have you ever tried to stamp and emboss on glass? See the magic!

with Fairy Stamper

The answer is, yes you can! I was excited when I saw this technique and knew I had to give it a try. Stamping and embossing on glass! I love the result. This beautifully framed piece was created as a part of the Fairy Stampers Video Design Team.

Materials:

  • Condo Dwellers FHS-060
  • Fantasy Flowers FHS-032
  • Works Board
  • VersaMark stamp pad
  • frame with glass
  • embossing powder
  • heat gun
  • decorative paper

After stamping and applying the embossing powder, you’ll want to clean off any excess powder and move to a heat-safe surface. Then the fun part, watch the embossing powder transform under the heat.

Clean off both sides of the glass with water and then frame the glass to finish the piece. I can’t wait to try this again and color the image, similar to stained glass!

Making a Beary Cute Card

Working with products from the Maker’s Movement made this card so bear cute!

with Maker’s Movement

Planning, coloring, and die-cutting this card was so peacefully enjoyable. I knew the moment I saw the bear stamp he was going to be a polar bear. My daughter loves polar bears. What excites me about the card is that I used the leftover cut-out leaves from a past project as the stencil to create the background! What a great way to extend the use of the die and the card stock. I keep all my left-over parts just in case for moments like this.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

Materials:

  • card stock – white and patterned
  • the Works Board
  • Let’s Get Cozy Die (leaves)
  • Woodland Friends – die and stamp sets
  • Distress Oxide
  • blending brush
  • Mini Maker
  • tape runner
  • Stazon black ink pad
  • Intense black ink pad
  • washi tape
  • Derwent Inktense pencils

Because I video the process, I didn’t get a chance to stop and photograph the ink blending with the DIY stencil on the front of the card. But you can see it all happen in the video tutorial below.

Isn’t that bear just so cute? After stamping and coloring, I taped the die in place then sent it all through the Mini Maker to cut. The only thing left to do is stamp the sentiment and put the card together.

Fairy Stamper Design Team

A new card designed for Fairy Stampers video design team. #sponsored @fairystamper @fairystamperhugs

Hints of Gold Card

I am a new member of the Fairy Stamper video design team. I will be posting tutorial videos twice a month on the Fairy Stamper YouTube Channel. This is my first card design using Fairy Stamps.

I wanted to create a misty look to the card. As if she were walking through a garden early morning and the mist was making everything appear gray and distant except for the glow and transparency of her wings. To accomplish this look, I layered images and used gray and green ink pads.

In the video below, you will find a unique stencil technique I used that creates a misty look. It can also mimic a tie-dye appearance. It is really easy to create and I love the results.

Video Tutorial:

The image above is showing a close-up of the hints of gold in the image. You can really see the Gold Shimmer Spray. I made my own shimmer spray with products from Dollar Tree. You can learn how to make your own cost-effective spray at the following link. [DIY Shimmer Spray]

If you are interested in the Word Art printable file I used, it is available in the store [Word Art page] It is a really handy crafting material to have on hand. I printed one version out on card stock and another on sticker paper.

Making a Card with Mica Powder

Make a mini mica card using up materials you have on hand.

I like making cards that are alternative sizes. This is a good technique for using up scraps and materials you already have on hand. I am using a lot of materials to make this simple card but you don’t have to have them all to make a similar card. Follow along with the video tutorial to see how this simple card is done.

Materials:

  • cardstock
  • stamp
  • stamp block
  • Versamark ink pad
  • Mica power
  • Label maker
  • alcohol ink marker
  • Washi chomper
  • Glue Dots

Video Tutorial:

Here is a close-up of the finished mini card. The mica powder really shines in person. I like how the colors are enhanced by the black cardstock.

Let me know what you make cards in a variety of different sizes. I think mini or small are my favorite.

How to Blend Ink

How to blend ink on a stamp.

I was recently asked to make a layered stamped card. Using a blended ink technique for the sentiment, I thought I would share my process here for how to blend the ink and then stamp it. I really like the subtle blend and it worked well as a background for my stamped sentiment. I am sure to use more ink blending in the future, how about you?

Materials:

  • stamping block
  • large flat stamp
  • water spray bottle
  • cotton swab
  • ink pads (I used 5)
  • card stock

Video Tutorial:

blended and stamped

You don’t have to spritz with water but I think it helped with the ink blending. And the cotton swab technique is a lifesaver, I am so glad I stumbled upon that technique!

Finally, I cut out a square shape from my stamped image and used it on the card at the top of the post.

How to Reverse a Stamped Image

Quick and easy mirror a stamped image.

I know a lot of crafters want to flip a stamped image. It seems like when you have a stamp facing one direction, you find a way you want to use it the reverse direction, but how do you accomplish that? I found a simple, easy way with a tool I already had in my collection.

Materials:

  • stamp
  • ink pad
  • Gelli plate
  • cardstock

Video Tutorial:

When you use this technique, the reverse image is a bit lighter but when colored in, the difference isn’t as noticeable.
