How to Get Textured Embossing

How to get a soft fuzzy texture from an embossed image.

finished tag

This week, I experimented with inking cardstock, embossing it, and then using a baby wipe to remove some of the ink from the raised areas. The technique revealed the embossed design while creating a soft, fuzzy-looking texture that almost resembles flocking.

I love how a few simple steps transformed an ordinary piece of cardstock into a unique, dimensional background!

I didn’t need much to finish off tag, a sentiment and a few diamond dots for a little bling and the tag was finished.

The close-up image shows the softness of the inking and a bit of the fibers that alters the embossing.

Free Vintage Railroad Printable

Add a touch of nostalgia to your paper crafts with this charming railroad-themed ephemera!

There is something wonderfully nostalgic about vintage railroads. From old-fashioned train tickets and luggage tags to railway signs and classic locomotives, these images bring to mind exciting journeys and adventures from days gone by.

This week’s free printable features a collection of railroad-themed ephemera designed especially for paper crafting. The vintage colors and aged details make the pieces perfect for junk journals, scrapbook pages, handmade cards, travel journals, tags, and mixed-media projects.

Grab the free printable at the bottom of the page.

My go-to printer brand for years has been HP. I also use their ink supply service where I pay a monthly fee and they send me ink cartridges as needed. It comes out to be a lot less money this way and I don’t have to keep track because they do all the tracking for me. The HP Envy Inspire is a great-priced machine that will produce beautiful prints.

If you are looking for a great crafting-weight paper for printables, I have a new favorite. It is double sided matte photo paper by Koala. It is heavier than copier paper but not quite as heavy as cardstock. It is a great medium weight for layering, folding, and more! They have different weights, I have been using the 48lb double sided photo paper for printables. It is available on Amazon.

And I found a new sticker paper I really like. It is A-Sub. It comes in Glossy Sticker and Matte Photo Sticker, 25 or 55 sheets. You can find it at Amazon.

You can easily turn clip art images into magnets using Printable Magnets Sheets from Cricut.

Try This Watercolor Pencil Technique

This week’s tag tutorial shares a fun sanding technique that creates dreamy blended color with watercolor pencils.

finished tag

This watercolor pencil technique was such a fun one to explore! It created a beautifully soft and artistic background for this week’s tag tutorial. After stamping the image, I continued working with the watercolor pencils to add color directly onto the stamped design, allowing the details to blend naturally into the background. The combination of the soft washes and the defined stamped lines gives the finished tag a delicate mixed media feel that is both colorful and relaxing to create.

pencils

You can create this sanding technique with just about any brand of watercolor pencils. For this project, I used KingArtwatercolor pencils. To create the soft powdered pigment effect, I sanded the pencil tips using an emery board, though sandpaper would work just as well. It is a simple technique that creates beautiful blended color and gives the background a dreamy watercolor appearance.
