Layered Heart SVG

Create a layered heart valentine with this free SVG file.

For Valentine’s Day, I am making a layered heart valentine with CutCardStock. I chose to make the heart alone but you can alter the file in many different ways. Use it as part of a card. Or maybe you want to only use two of the layers. And with any SVG file, you can change the size of the file and the colors you cut them out of for a variety of different looks.

I used three different card stocks for my project. The heart is made with layering Pop-Tone Razzleberry as the top layer, Stardrea m Metallic i n Kunzite, and the bottom solid heart layer in Bright Silver Foil.

I cut the three different layers of cardstock on a Cricut Maker. I set the size of the heart to 5″ tall.

You can see how pretty those detailed layers are and they would work well individually as well as together. A totally different idea would be to use them as stencils.

Weave a Ribbon Greeting Card

I had an idea for weaving ribbon through a card and here is the result. I love how you can change the look by changing the color of the ribbons. What about trying paper strips instead? Don’t add the bow and add a sentiment strip instead would also change the look of the card. It is so versatile.

I used this beautiful St ardream Metallic Crystal cardstock. The cardstock is smooth and metallic. The cardstock has a mica pearlescent coating on both sides. It really is beautiful and shimmery in person. Changing the color of the cardstock would also change the look of the card – again so versatile.

I cut the SVG file on a Cricut Maker. The cardstock is heavy, you might find cutting it twice will help.

Here are all the parts I used to make the card. I used an additional piece of cardstock inside the front flap of the card because one of the ribbon strips was sheer. Depending on the ribbon or paper strips you choose this might not be necessary.

I chose to use double-stick tape inside my card to hold the ribbon ends in place. Using a stamp pad to hold back the ribbons while placing the tape was a big help.

Making a Playful Cat Tag

Making a playful cat tag with Fairy Stamper.

Cats are playful. The Nala stamp from Fairy Stamper needed to be playful and the scrapbook paper with the birds worked well. I put the two together to make a playful tag.

Snowflake Box :: Free SVG

Make this festive snowflake box for your holiday gift giving with the free SVG file.

Just in time for your holiday gift-giving is this free SVG file to make a Snowflake Box. Or if you need a plain box, just remove the design element and you have a standard square box template. The great thing about this box design is that you can make it and then store it flat until you need it.

I used Habanero cardstock.

I cut the file on a Cricut Maker at a setting of 100#. The cardstock is 80# cover weight but cuts really well at a slightly larger setting.

The SVG file comes with cut and score lines. You will need to set the lines to score before cutting. The file comes with a square shape to insert into the top of the box. However, I just freehand cut mine to save time. I suggest using wet glue to insert the top piece as well as the seal on the side of the box. It tends to hold better than other options.

Here you can see the box together and open ready for the gift to be placed inside. You really don’t need anything additional. The box will hold itself close and since there is a decoration on the box, no ribbon is needed either.

Above is a close-up of the snowflake decoration on the top of the box. I think adding some decorative gems to the circles could make this extra special. You might also consider using acetate or vellum instead of cardstock for the insert.

Making a Gift Tag

Making a gift tag inspired by ephemera.

Sometimes the materials suggest the project. This is the case with my gift tag made with pieces of ephemera. I loved the little girl knitting and it seemed like the perfect idea to make a gift tag to go with a special handmade knitted gift. The little girl image also set the color theme. I only wish she were crocheting because I do that more often than knitting.

Materials:

To begin, I chose to distress the edges of the colored card stock pieces. I cut the mint cardstock tag first, then the mustard tag a bit larger on all four sides. The mustard rectangle was a leftover piece from cutting the tag. Notice the hole isn’t punched yet in the mustard tag so I can align it correctly with the mint piece. These pieces were cut on the Works Board using the guide for making tags.

Here are all the individual parts ready to put together with The Best Glue Ever. You can watch how it was done in the following video tutorial. While the ribbon bow coordinates well, I couldn’t find the right spot to place it on the tag.

Making a Card from Scraps

Make greeting cards using up your scraps can be an enjoyable creative process.

Making a card doesn’t have to be difficult. Using up your scrap pieces can be an enjoyable creative process and useful too. I keep my little scraps in a basket on the side of my craft table and then put color coordinating pieces together. When there are enough of them, I start to make cards with them.

Materials:

the Best Glue Ever
ScraPerfect’s No-Clog Writing Cap™
scraps
gem stickers
alcohol ink marker

I used cardstock and Rinea Foil but any paper will work. I didn’t cut down or adjust the pieces. I find it a fun creative process to work around these constraints and find a pleasing composition.

I color my own gem stickers to coordinate with the design. This tip is a great cost-saving. I didn’t add a sentiment to the card. This makes the design flexible for a variety of different uses and I can personalize it when it’s needed.

Designing a Leaf Letterhead

The Leaf Letterhead SVG file can be used in a variety of different ways.

This leaf letterhead svg file is very versatile. I’ve created a finished decor piece with it to show you how it could be used. The design was created to be used in a variety of different ways like a letter, menu, invitation, announcement, and any other way you can imagine. You don’t have to put another piece behind the design, or on top of it as shown. It is just one option for this file.

The Royal Sundance Card Stock in Brilliant White is the star of this post and the card stock that was cut. It’s joined with Stardream Metallic Gold and Glama Card Stock in Kraft. The poem was printed using my Cricut Maker and the Kraft card stock but it could also be printed on a printer.

Use a personal cutting machine that works with an SVG file. I am using a Cricut Maker for cutting and writing. Because the design is 8.5″ x 11″, and the card stock is the same size, you have to pay attention to the alignment on your mat. The Kraft card stock was written on and cut on the Cricut Maker too. I used a 0.4 black Cricut pen for the writing.

Making a Beary Cute Card

Working with products from the Maker’s Movement made this card so bear cute!

Planning, coloring, and die-cutting this card was so peacefully enjoyable. I knew the moment I saw the bear stamp he was going to be a polar bear. My daughter loves polar bears. What excites me about the card is that I used the leftover cut-out leaves from a past project as the stencil to create the background! What a great way to extend the use of the die and the card stock. I keep all my left-over parts just in case for moments like this.

Isn’t that bear just so cute? After stamping and coloring, I taped the die in place then sent it all through the Mini Maker to cut. The only thing left to do is stamp the sentiment and put the card together.

Making a Mini Album

A beautiful mini-album made using materials provided by i-Crafter.

This month, the DCC (Designer Crafts Connection) is being sponsored by i-Crafter. If you aren’t familiar with i-Crafter, you are going to love their products, they are so creative. I first experienced i-Crafter at a Creativation conference and their booth was all the buzz as a new company displaying products. They have been going strong ever since.

I would first like to thank Designer Crafts Connection for the opportunity to work with amazing companies and designers. And specifically for this post, I would like to thank i-Crafter for providing materials used with this project.

There are nine other projects created for this Designer Crafts Connection hop. Please take a moment to visit all the projects to see how each designer worked with i-Crafter.

The image above shows what i-Crafter sent to me. I love the little house dies and the 3D embossing folder, but I am setting them aside for another project. All those little clear pockets hold embellishments for a mini-album, which the parts were also included. A detailed direction document showed how the mini-album gets put together. I put mine together pretty much as explained.

The Pages:

I jumped in and put the mini-album together. After designing the front and back cover, I started on the inside. There was no way i-Crafter could send all these dies for the album and embellishments, but it was amazing that they sent all the parts pre-cut and labeled. It was a fun project to put together and one I think they could easily sell as kits.

While the mini-album follows a theme, there is a lot of variety from page to page. The image above has a storage envelope, embellishments, and an acetate page. Each of the three acetate pages has a word on them: Live, Laugh, Love.

The theme is also carried throughout using coordinating papers and shapes. The mini-album form is held together with an accordion binding which is so clever. The video below will walk you through the entire process and then show each page when finished.
