Mixed Media Journal

Create art journal pages on dura-lar with Grafix.

with Grafix

Grafix has two new Mixed Media Journals added to their product list. They sent me the square version to try. I was excited to see the variety of surfaces to work on and I decided to test out a variety of different media with it. The journal includes six different surfaces, two of each. I created two very different pages for this post.

I would first like to thank Designer Crafts Connection for the opportunity to work with amazing companies and designers. And specifically for this post, I would like to thank Grafix for providing materials used with this project.

There are other projects created for this Designer Crafts Connection hop with a variety of different products from Grafix. Please take a moment to visit all the projects to see how each designer worked with Grafix.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

I began working with a clear wet media dura-lar page. I started with ink on a Gelli plate, then stenciling, stamping, and finally decoupage. Sticking with a palette of blues and pinks I chose to work with florals. The clear surface of the dura-lar excited me when I realized I could work on the back with decoupage and have it show on the front. Some of the work started to smear the more I added to the surface so I applied a clear coat spray and finished up with gluing on a piece of ephemera.

The next page I tried was the matte dura-lar. The front and back idea from the first page was carried over to this one. I started applying alcohol ink to the front surface, then I adhered some gold foil to the ink. The front of the page was finished up with blue, white, and gold paint pens. I then turned the page over and started with Derwent’s Inktense pencils. Again I used blue, white, and gold paint pens with the front art as a guide. A coat of clear coat was applied to the front and back when finished.
