Card Making

Follow along the creative process for making a card, staring without a plan.

and the Creative Process

I began making this card without a plan. I take you through the entire creative process from start to finish using minimal materials. The process begins with ink smooching to make a background for the card. And from there, choose colors that coordinate.

For the sentiment, I used a word from the Word Art file located in the store. You can access that file here: https://tryit-likeit.com/product/word-art/

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.
A special thanks to those brands who sponsor this site. Some links are affiliates, thank you for using them.

The sentiment is raised using foam tape and the bloom is tucked into the top. You also get a sense of the glitter splats from the Unicorn Spit paint.

Video Tutorial:

The image above shows the finished card and a peek to the inside. I like to take elements from the front of the card and carry them into the inside. You can also see the slight 3D effect of the bloom on the front of the card.

Making a Magical Greeting Card

Making a magical greeting card that sparkles and shines.

final card

What a fun greeting card to make. It glitters and sparkles. The stencil-designed paper was the inspiration for making this card, along with the card base that has a metallic glitter to it. Adding different elements of glitter and sparkle helped to unify the pieces.

You can learn how to make the reversed stencil design at the following post: [reverse stencil]

Materials:

  • CutCardStock Crystal Stardream
  • CutCardStock Vellum
  • Zing silver embossing powder
  • heat gun
  • the Works Board
  • magical stamp
  • Versamark stamp pad
  • iZink dye spray
  • Best Glue Ever

The above image shows how the cardstock and the stenciled image both have similar glitz to them. The stenciled image was sprayed with iZink dye in silver to add sparkle.

Video Tutorial:

I like to add a hint of the outside to the inside of cards. For this one, I added a strip of the stenciled paper along the edge.

Making a Fall Greeting Card

Making a fall greeting card with Makers Movement.

with Makers Movement

Using a hello die from Makers Movement and their Autumn Breeze paper pack, I made this fall greeting card. This card uses a stacking technique for the greeting as well as the background of the card. I love the Autumn colors and the rich feeling they have. I actually used scraps from past projects so this technique is a great way to use up your leftovers.

Materials:

  • Autumn Breeze paper pack
  • Hello die
  • cardstock – a variety of colors
  • Xyron
  • CrossOver II
  • Cricut paper trimmer
  • rubber eraser
  • tape runner
colored cardstock

Here are the pieces of cardstock I used for the layered background. You can see how the entire card is put together in the video tutorial below.

Floral Notecard Free SVG

Make these simple notecards with the free SVG file and card stock from CutCardStock.

with CutCardStock

top fold notecards

Sometimes it is really nice to have a simple but elegant notecard on hand for when you need to write a quick note. The SVG file for this notecard can be adapted into a few different styles. The image above shows one with a color insert that can be changed to any color you desire. Or leave the notecard plain like the card on the right. You can stamp to add a sentiment or add additional design elements if you desire.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

The Royal Sundance Card Stock in Brilliant White is the foundation for the notecard.

Use a personal cutting machine that works with an SVG file. I used a Cricut Maker at a setting of 100#. Because the design is 8.5″ x 11″, and the card stock is the same size, you have to pay attention to the alignment on your mat. The file will make two cards from one sheet of card stock.

Video Tutorial:

close-up detail

The close-up image above shows the cutting detail of the SVG file, the color insert, and the beautiful texture of the Royal Sundance card stock. It also shows how well the cardstock cuts the delicate centers of the petals.

Making a set of these notecards would make for a nice gift. As an option, you could insert a different color into each one of the notecards for a rainbow set of cards.

The SVG file for the Notecard is available at: [Floral Notecard]

If you would like to make a notepad with the same design, there is an SVG file for that as well. You can find it at: [Floral Notepad]

Making a Beary Cute Card

Working with products from the Maker’s Movement made this card so bear cute!

with Maker’s Movement

Planning, coloring, and die-cutting this card was so peacefully enjoyable. I knew the moment I saw the bear stamp he was going to be a polar bear. My daughter loves polar bears. What excites me about the card is that I used the leftover cut-out leaves from a past project as the stencil to create the background! What a great way to extend the use of the die and the card stock. I keep all my left-over parts just in case for moments like this.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

.

Materials:

  • card stock – white and patterned
  • the Works Board
  • Let’s Get Cozy Die (leaves)
  • Woodland Friends – die and stamp sets
  • Distress Oxide
  • blending brush
  • Mini Maker
  • tape runner
  • Stazon black ink pad
  • Intense black ink pad
  • washi tape
  • Derwent Inktense pencils

Because I video the process, I didn’t get a chance to stop and photograph the ink blending with the DIY stencil on the front of the card. But you can see it all happen in the video tutorial below.

Isn’t that bear just so cute? After stamping and coloring, I taped the die in place then sent it all through the Mini Maker to cut. The only thing left to do is stamp the sentiment and put the card together.

Pumpkin Mandala Card

Follow along and make this pumpkin mandala for fall, Halloween, or Thanksgiving. It is so versatile it works for card making or home decor. #sponsored #cutcardstock

with printable and free SVG

Today I am using an SVG file to create a Pumpkin Mandala Card. This design works well for Halloween, Fall, or Thanksgiving. I’ve used the mandala for a card but you could make it larger for a beautiful decor piece. Or just framing the card would be nice too.

Many of the items I use in my posts are provided by the manufacturers in order to promote their products.
A special thanks to those brands who sponsor this site.

Orange, brown, and gold card stocks are being featured this month on CutCardStock. I am using Cosmic Orange and Stardream Metallic Card Stock in Bronze. I really like the iridescent quality of the Stardream card stocks.

I cut the CutCardStock on a Cricut Maker. The Cosmic Orange was cut at 100# and the Metallic Bronze was cut twice at 100#. While the mat is still in the Maker, just hit the go button again.

Busy Bee Card

Making a busy bee card with Fairy Stamper. #sponsored @fairystamper @fairystamperhugs

With Fairy Stampers

This Busy Bee card is made with the Bees stamp from Fairy Stampers. Today I have a video tutorial on the Fairy Stampers YouTube channel as a part of their video design team. The card design was inspired by my wanting to try stamping on a ribbon and the size of the bees lent themselves to the process.

The patterned card stock adds to the activity of the bees flying. I like how the envelope in yellow relates to the yellow ribbon on the card and the little bee stamp on the flap connects it all together. There is also a little bee on the back of the card which you will see in the video tutorial below.

materials

Many of the items I use in my posts are provided by the manufacturers in order to promote their products.
I want to give special thanks to those brands who sponsor this site.

Materials:

  • patterned card stock
  • ribbon – yellow and cream
  • stamp pad
  • stamp block
  • Bee stamps – FHS-178
  • scissors
  • Xyron sticker maker
  • adhesive
  • black card stock
  • sentiment
  • yellow card stock
  • tape runner
  • WRMK Works Board

Video Tutorial:

close-up

The above image shows a close-up of the card and stamping on the ribbon. I like how the ribbon with the bees is solid and the ribbon behind the word is translucent.

If you are interested in the Word Art printable file I used for the word busy, it is available in the store [Word Art page] It is a really handy crafting material to have on hand. I printed one version out on card stock and another on sticker paper.
