Glow in the Dark | Halloween Card

This month I am participating in a Halloween video blog hop. I created the card above for the hop and I am sharing the cutting files free (links below). The unique quality of this card is that the spider web glows in the dark.

I used my Cricut Maker to cut the black cardstock and the clear overhead projector sheet. I had some trouble finding the right setting for the overhead plastic, I ended up using the Cricut mat cover sheet setting and adding more pressure. The finished folded card is 6″ x 4″

Some items used in this post have been provided.

Materials:

  • black cardstock
  • white cardstock – 8″ x 6″
  • overhead projector sheet
  • glow in the dark paint
  • paintbrush
  • adhesive
  • Xyron
  • heat gun (optional)
  • personal cutting machine (Cricut Maker)
  • free cut files (linked below)

Directions:

The file contains both cut images. [cut file]
To download the file, click on the text in the brackets above, the image will open in a new window.

I am participating in the September SVG blog hop with the theme of coffee. It is the essence of life, isn’t it? At least for some, it is. Show your love of coffee with this free SVG file or one of the many others shared in this hop.  [coffee essence]

How to Etch a Glass Decanter with EtchAll

The minute I saw this decanter advertised on the Dollar Tree website, I knew I had to have it. I wanted to etch it with etchall. I love the iridescent quality of the glass. I had a hard time deciding which color decanter to get but ultimately decided upon the purple version. I originally envisioned etching all four sides of the glass, but I ran into a bit of an issue I will explain in detail below.

This post and photos may contain Amazon or other affiliate links. If you purchase something through any link, I may receive a small commission at no extra charge to you. Any supplies used may be given to me free of charge, however, all projects and opinions are my own.

Materials:

  • glass decanter
  • etchall creme
  • paintbrush
  • cardstock scrap
  • vinyl
  • free SVG file
  • personal cutting machine (Cricut Maker)
  • craft knife
  • rubbing alcohol
  • paper towels

Directions:

Download the free SVG file. [stencil]

Cut the stencil design from vinyl.

Weed away the area that will etch.

Here is where I ran into a bit of trouble. The first time I etched the decanter it removed the purple iridescent layer.
So I used a craft knife to scratch off all the purple from one side of the decanter.

Clean the glass with rubbing alcohol and then adhere the stencil to the glass.

Cover the stencil with etchall etching creme, be generous.

After 15 minutes has passed, remove the excess creme and return it to the container.
I used a scrap of cardstock to remove the creme.
etchall creme is reusable.

Here is a close-up of the final result.
I am happy I resolved my issue and it turned out well!

Love All Hate None Free SVG

In light of all that’s going on in our country and in the world, April’s free SVG theme is INSPIRING QUOTES. I don’t think there’s anyone who couldn’t benefit from a bit more positivity right now. So here is my submission for this month, Love All Hate None. Hopefully, you can find the perfect use for this saying whether it be a shirt, tote, towel … whatever. Maybe you could even make something to gift to a friend or loved one and share the idea of positivity. And don’t forget to see all the other free SVG files available at the bottom of this post.

Check out all the other great designs at the links below.

Heart Boxes

This is an example of the sixty some odd heart boxes we made for Valentine’s Day. Who were the lucky recipients? Kids in my daughters’ classes and their basketball teammates. What was inside? Those famous lip balm balls everyone is talking about, a mustache whistle and a valentine gumball. Some boxes were filled with spritz heart cookies as well. We had so much fun making them, we worked in a production line fashion. This was from last year. This year, we need to come up with something similar to place those yummy Lindt Chocolates into. That post will be coming soon.

A few more of the boxes finished.

Materials:

  • Valentine-themed scrapbook paper
  • personal cutting machine (I used a Cricut Explore Air 2)
  • or scissors
  • free svg file or free printable template (both are linked below)

Special thanks to  Cricut for providing the Cricut Explore Air 2 in order to produce posts similar to this one.

The files we used were from The Craft Chop and you can use them too. Oh, did I mention they were free?

Paper Pumpkin :: Tutorial

This fall make a three-dimensional pumpkin from paper for fun and decor.

Create one or a few of this easy paper pumpkin this fall. You can cut out the necessary pieces on your personal paper cutter or by hand. They aren’t that detailed.

materials

Materials needed:

  • Orange cardstock
  • Green cardstock
  • Mini Glue Dots
  • Bone folder
  • Marker with cap
  • Personal cutting machine and free SVG file or template and scissors

This is the cutting template. You can print out the image, draw your own, or download this free SVG file. [SVG file]

opposite strips
Begin by lifting and gluing opposite strips together.

lifting strips
I chose to work in a random order of pairs, you can do this or work your way around the pumpkin in order.

leaf
This step is optional, I decided to add a bit of dimension to the leaf by drawing in veins with a bone folder and then bending the leaf to be more realistic.

attach leaf
Attach the leaf to the top of the pumpkin using a Glue Dot.

pen technique
Here is a trick for rolling the paper vine. I used a marker and put the end of the paper strip under the cap, then rolled the paper around the pen.

rolling paper
Once you are happy with the vine, remove it from the pen. I chose to roll it tighter once removed and just did it by hand.

finished
I folded the vine and attached it under the leaf with a final Glue Dot.
