Embossing a Quick Card

How to make a quick and easy card using embossing folders. #card #cardtutorial

finished card

I like having cards on hand, you never know when you might need them. This embossed card is a good one to have available. Not only is it quick and easy to make, but it also works for a number of different occasions.

embossing plates

I am using two embossing plates and paper parts from a Dollar Tree insert card kit. Embossing both pieces at the same time in my Gemini machine makes for a quick and easy card.

ready to tape

After the pieces are embossed and trimmed to size, all that is needed is to adhere them together. I am using foam tape from the Dollar Tree to give the sentiment a raised-up effect.

final card

My favorite gold watercolor is Reddish Gold Japanese Watercolor from Yasutomo. So I was excited to see Yasutomo at the Namta/Creativation trade show. I was given a set of watercolor pencils, they aren’t even released yet. So I tried them out and made a thank you note to send to them.

Some items used in this tutorial were provided by the manufacturer in order to promote their products.

watercolor pencils

When I got home a tried the pencils and painted a flower. The pencils are really nice and creamy.

flower painting

I really like how the pencils; when water is added, have a result that looks like watercolor paints. But the pencils are so versatile with the ability to add details. You can see the watercolor blending in the flower petals and the detail in the center of the flower.

I chose to use the flower image on a card and of course, I had to use my favorite gold watercolor. The base of the card has a napkin applied with Nori paste, when dry, I used the gold watercolor to bring out the texture. The textured cardstock also has the gold watercolor applied. The belly band made of vellum has a sentiment in gold embossing powder to connect it all together.

Making a Magical Greeting Card

Making a magical greeting card that sparkles and shines.

final card

What a fun greeting card to make. It glitters and sparkles. The stencil-designed paper was the inspiration for making this card, along with the card base that has a metallic glitter to it. Adding different elements of glitter and sparkle helped to unify the pieces.

You can learn how to make the reversed stencil design at the following post: [reverse stencil]

Materials:

  • CutCardStock Crystal Stardream
  • CutCardStock Vellum
  • Zing silver embossing powder
  • heat gun
  • the Works Board
  • magical stamp
  • Versamark stamp pad
  • iZink dye spray
  • Best Glue Ever

The above image shows how the cardstock and the stenciled image both have similar glitz to them. The stenciled image was sprayed with iZink dye in silver to add sparkle.

Video Tutorial:

I like to add a hint of the outside to the inside of cards. For this one, I added a strip of the stenciled paper along the edge.

Making a Playful Cat Tag

Making a playful cat tag with Fairy Stamper.

with Fairy Stamper

cat tag

Cats are playful. The Nala stamp from Fairy Stamper needed to be playful and the scrapbook paper with the birds worked well. I put the two together to make a playful tag.

Materials:

  • scrapbook paper
  • cardstock
  • Nala stamp
  • black ink pad
  • clear embossing powder
  • heat gun
  • DIY shimmer spray
  • Distress Oxide
  • blending brush
  • ribbons
  • hole punch
  • works board
  • scissors
  • tape runner

Making a Get-Well Card

Making a get-well card with Fairy Stamper stamp and stencil.

with Fairy Stamper

finished card

As a part of the Fairy Stamper’s Video Design Team, I have a new card tutorial for making a get-well greeting card. I could probably send this to myself as I am getting over a cold that lasted a long 2.5 weeks where I lost my voice. So I have a lot of catching up to do. Thankfully, no Covid, I was tested twice!

materials

Materials:

  • stencil
  • cardstock – blue, green, white
  • blending brush
  • Distress Oxide
  • Pixie spray
  • stamps
  • Works Board
  • white embossing powder
  • DIY shimmer spray
  • adhesive
  • heat gun
  • Rinea Foiled Paper – die-cut sentiment

I wanted to try something different with my stamping in that we typically stamp in black and I wanted to use white. I wasn’t sure about stamping a fairy in white so I chose to work with the florals. I also wanted to use a stencil to texturize the background and I really like how that turned out.

Video Tutorial:

The close-up image above caught the DIY shimmer mist really well on the card. If you would like to learn how I made it, you can follow this link. [shimmer mist]

Fairy Card with Heart Stems

Follow along to make this fairy card with heart stems. Lots of techniques included.

Today I am working with a stamp from Fairy Hugs called Alexa. She is joyful and playful so I added an array of three different colored heart stems behind her to amplify her action. The card doesn’t have a sentiment. I like leaving them blank until later so the card can be used for a variety of different occasions. I can always add a sentiment but changing one isn’t that easy.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

Ways to Stamp Texture

Learn fun stamping techniques with Fairy Stamper stamps.

with Fairy Stamper

I enjoy creating my own textured papers using a variety of different techniques. For my Fairy Stampers Video Design post this month, I used a bulrushes stamp in different ways to create the background paper for my card. Another Fairy Stampers stamp was used for the sentiment. This was a fun card to make.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

The card came together in a two-step process. The first was creating the background, and the second was creating the sentiment strip.

stamping sentiment

After embossing the cardstock, the sentiment was stamped on top. Since the embossed cardstock has texture, the stamp needed to be applied more than once.

Once the parts of the card were made, it was time to put it all together. A tape runner and foam tape were used.

card close-up

Here is a close-up shot of the card so you can see the texture and misting spray as well as the raised sentiment. You can really see how the colors work together in this image.

Embossing Toilet Paper

You can emboss toilet paper – have you tried this technique yet?

embossed toilet paper

Toilet paper for crafting – yes! I embossed layers of toilet paper. This technique was a new one for me and I couldn’t wait to try it out in a variety of different ways. I really like the playfulness of this technique and the fun results from a basically disposable product.

basic materials
basic materials

What a fun way to use your embossing plates in a new way. The basic materials needed are an embossing plate, toilet paper, a spray bottle with water, and a manual die-cutting machine – mine is a CrossOver II.

I also used a stamp pad, glimmer mist spray, and spray inks.

styles of embossing
styles of embossing

While the differences might look subtle in some of the dry embossed toilet paper samples, yours could look very different depending upon the colors you use. Starting from left: spray inks, plain white, pink ink pad, spray glimmer mist. Once the embossing has dried, you can also add additional color on top*. I would suggest wiping with an ink pad to add color.

*Please note that any additional wet products added to your dried embossing could reactivate the paper and you could lose the embossed designs.

Video Tutorial:

These embossed pieces once dry can be used in all forms of crafting. You can cut them down to your desired shape and size. I would even suggest trying to die-cut them. One additional suggestion: to adhere use a tacky type of glue and don’t use a tape runner on the embossed toilet paper – it will tear.

Can You Stamp on Glass?

Have you ever tried to stamp and emboss on glass? See the magic!

with Fairy Stamper

The answer is, yes you can! I was excited when I saw this technique and knew I had to give it a try. Stamping and embossing on glass! I love the result. This beautifully framed piece was created as a part of the Fairy Stampers Video Design Team.

Materials:

  • Condo Dwellers FHS-060
  • Fantasy Flowers FHS-032
  • Works Board
  • VersaMark stamp pad
  • frame with glass
  • embossing powder
  • heat gun
  • decorative paper

After stamping and applying the embossing powder, you’ll want to clean off any excess powder and move to a heat-safe surface. Then the fun part, watch the embossing powder transform under the heat.

Clean off both sides of the glass with water and then frame the glass to finish the piece. I can’t wait to try this again and color the image, similar to stained glass!
