The close-up image shows how the double-layered paper appears embedded by the embossing. The cutout circles remind me of a compass and now I think the word wander would have been a great choice! Have you tried this technique?

Let’s Try an Embossing Technique

Tag it Tuesday

final tag

This is an interesting way to alter the use of your embossing plates. I have done this process before with better results using a different machine. Experimenting with the amount of pressure does affect your results. What we want to have happen is only to emboss part of the piece.

materials

Here are the materials I grabbed to work on this tag. There is always a way to salvage your process even though the result is different from your intended first direction. This week is an example of going with the flow.

The close-up image shows the detail of the ink applied to the tag as well as the gold flecks. These correlate to the gold on the butterfly wings.

Gold Foil Tag – Tag it Tuesday

gold foil tag

Today I am sharing a Gold Foil technique for Tag it Tuesday. I like the rustic application of the gold foil that coordinates with the pattern on the small envelope. Inside the envelope is a small card that has a sentiment and a butterfly sticker.

Reverse Embossing – Tag it Tuesday

tag

This tye-dye look is achieved with a technique called reverse embossing. It uses the “wrong” side of the embossed card stock. After ink blending into the negative spaces, black ink is applied to the raised surfaces to create the look. I added a sticker sentiment and a few gems to finish the tag off.

If you are interested in the word sticker set, it is available in the store at the following link: [Art Words]

In this close-up image, you can see the addition of the gemstones better. I think they add to the final overall look.

Tag it Tuesday – Inked and Embossed

tags

This week’s tag is working with a background we made last week for Tag it Tuesday. I wasn’t happy with the blotchy inked surface so this week we are altering it into a beautifully useful tag.

materials

The materials I am using are the inked paper from last week. (See how blotchy it looks.) A black ink pad from Simon Says Stamp and a floral embossing folder. This is a great technique to use those papers and creations you don’t think you can create with.

Video Tutorial:

If you are interested in how the inked surface was made last week, here is the link to that tutorial post. [Mini Tags]

close up

In this close-up image, you can see how the black in is added around the edges and possibly you can see the embossing on the paper surface. I really like how this technique transformed the inked surface into something I like much better.

Embossing a Quick Card

How to make a quick and easy card using embossing folders. #card #cardtutorial

finished card

I like having cards on hand, you never know when you might need them. This embossed card is a good one to have available. Not only is it quick and easy to make, but it also works for a number of different occasions.

embossing plates

I am using two embossing plates and paper parts from a Dollar Tree insert card kit. Embossing both pieces at the same time in my Gemini machine makes for a quick and easy card.

ready to tape

After the pieces are embossed and trimmed to size, all that is needed is to adhere them together. I am using foam tape from the Dollar Tree to give the sentiment a raised-up effect.

Watercolor Card

How to paint with watercolor pencils.

with Yasutomo

final card

My favorite gold watercolor is Reddish Gold Japanese Watercolor from Yasutomo. So I was excited to see Yasutomo at the Namta/Creativation trade show. I was given a set of watercolor pencils, they aren’t even released yet. So I tried them out and made a thank you note to send to them.

Some items used in this tutorial were provided by the manufacturer in order to promote their products.

watercolor pencils

When I got home a tried the pencils and painted a flower. The pencils are really nice and creamy.

flower painting

I really like how the pencils; when water is added, have a result that looks like watercolor paints. But the pencils are so versatile with the ability to add details. You can see the watercolor blending in the flower petals and the detail in the center of the flower.

I chose to use the flower image on a card and of course, I had to use my favorite gold watercolor. The base of the card has a napkin applied with Nori paste, when dry, I used the gold watercolor to bring out the texture. The textured cardstock also has the gold watercolor applied. The belly band made of vellum has a sentiment in gold embossing powder to connect it all together.

Making a Magical Greeting Card

Making a magical greeting card that sparkles and shines.

final card

What a fun greeting card to make. It glitters and sparkles. The stencil-designed paper was the inspiration for making this card, along with the card base that has a metallic glitter to it. Adding different elements of glitter and sparkle helped to unify the pieces.

You can learn how to make the reversed stencil design at the following post: [reverse stencil]

Materials:

  • CutCardStock Crystal Stardream
  • CutCardStock Vellum
  • Zing silver embossing powder
  • heat gun
  • the Works Board
  • magical stamp
  • Versamark stamp pad
  • iZink dye spray
  • Best Glue Ever

The above image shows how the cardstock and the stenciled image both have similar glitz to them. The stenciled image was sprayed with iZink dye in silver to add sparkle.

Video Tutorial:

I like to add a hint of the outside to the inside of cards. For this one, I added a strip of the stenciled paper along the edge.
