How to Weave a Paper Vase

Weave a paper vase with this free SVG file.

finished vase with flowers

This month Pop-Tone is the featured cardstock over at CutCardStock. I’ve created a decorative piece that is 3-dimensional. The above is shown in two coordinating colors but it works equally well in one color. Such a cute finished piece that is great for gift-giving, decorating a small space, or sharing as a group craft project with others.

cardstock colors used

I used two colors from the Pop-Tone sample pack, Gumdrop Green, and Sour Apple. These are 65# card stock. Each Pop-Tone sample pack comes with one sheet of all the colors in the 65 lb cover weight and has one sheet of each of the Pop-Tone 100 lb cover weight. This is a nice way to sample all the colors. Of course, you can purchase the colors separately.

cricut maker

I cut the design on a Cricut Maker. Before cutting, I scaled the design to fit onto a letter-size sheet, then I set my file to cut 1 of each of the two colors. The cutting pressure was set to 100# cardstock with no additional pressure.

cut pieces

To begin weaving, flip one of the colors so the angled “rays” are in the opposite direction from the other piece, and then stack them on top of each other.

weaving

I used binder clips to hold the weaving in place to make sure the results were correct before gluing it all together.

final card

I have a very pretty white-on-white card that could be used for a wedding, an anniversary, or just a special greeting. You can add your own sentiment or leave it as is.

I suggest this cut file for intermediate or above users.

basis card stock

The paper I used was Basis White Card Stock for the card. Basis White is so versatile. I love it for the foundation of most of my card making. It cuts and scores beautifully. At 80#, I choose to set my Cricut Maker at a card stock setting of 100# which works well even for small detailed cuts.

Cricut maker

I cut the file on a Cricut Maker. As a reminder, set the red lines to score and load your scoring tool before setting the file to cut.

card parts

There are three rose cuts for this card. You could choose to use only one or you could enlarge them if desired. I urge you to watch the video tutorial below for tips and techniques on how to weed these delicate cuts.

What a beautiful card that could be used for a wedding, an anniversary, or just a special greeting. You can add your own sentiment or leave it as is. I love how the neutral colors coordinate together. Three different papers were used to make this card.

The papers used were Stardream Metallic in Quartz for the card. Stardream is my favorite cardstock because it has a shimmer to the surface. Cut the floral element from MirriSparkle Glitter in Gold, and the vellum insert from Curious Translucent in Clear.

cricut

I cut the file on a Cricut Maker. As a reminder, set the red lines to score and load your scoring tool before setting the file to cut. Similar weight cardstocks can be cut at the same time. Set your machine to 100lb cardstock for the Stardream and the Gold Glitter and run the cut twice. Just push the go button again without removing your mat.

parts

The cut file has three parts to glue together. Any adhesive will work, I am using Reptile Craft Adhesive. I’ve placed it into a smaller bottle (as seen in the photo above). You can purchase the pearl gems at the Dollar Tree.

Wrapped Vase Decor

Making a wrapped vase decor piece with CutCardStock.

Vase Decor

This wrapped decor piece was really fun to make. I am using a tall vase from the Dollar Tree and wrapping it with Stardream Metallic Bronze cardstock. My initial plan was just to do the wrap but when I saw the pieces that were weeded out of the cardstock, they looked like petals to me and I just couldn’t let those go to waste. And I am glad I didn’t because the addition of the flowers really adds to the vase.

bronze stardream cardstock

I used this beautiful Stardream Metallic Bronze cardstock. The cardstock is smooth and metallic. The base of the cardstock is black with a mica pearlescent coating on both sides. It really is beautiful and shimmery in person.

This cardstock is thick, it’s 105#. I tend to use washi tape to make sure it doesn’t slip or move while cutting. I used a setting of 100# cardstock. Cutting it twice would definitely help.

flower materials

I couldn’t waste those petal shapes. Making a double-layered flower, I added a center of gold and a green metallic embellishment dot. Plus I have more petal shapes I can use for another project.

close-up

Here you can see a close-up of the flower as well as the wrap around the vase. The pattern the wrap projects with a light inside is beautiful. I chose to add an electric tea light into the vase, I am not sure about a real candle with paper on the outside.

How to Sew a Bowl Cozy with Cricut

Learn how simple it is to sew a bowl cozy with help from a Cricut Maker.

I have seen bowl cozies offered at craft fairs, they intrigued me but I always passed them by. Recently watching a YouTube video making them, I became interested in making my own. Watching someone use a bowl cozy, now it made sense to me. We tend to use a pot holder, which works, but it doesn’t wrap around the sides of the bowl to protect your hands. So, I decided to make my own with the help of my Cricut Maker.

Some items used in this post were provided by Cricut.

Cricut Maker

Materials:

  • cotton fabric
  • cotton batting (or cotton felt)
  • thread
  • sewing machine
  • scissors
  • pen
  • ruler
  • Cricut Maker

Directions:

Cut your fabric and felt to 9″ squares, two of each. I used my Cricut Maker to cut the cotton fabric, it was so easy, and made the squares the exact same size.

Place the batting or felt to the wrong side of the fabric. Sew diagonally across the pieces making an X shape.

Do this to both pieces. The color of the felt or batting doesn’t matter because it will be inside the cozy.

Fold one side of the fabric in half with the right side together. Measure and mark a point along the fold 2″ and up the short side 1″. Draw a diagonal line connecting these points together. Do this to both side.

From here it is easier to explain the steps in a video.

Video Tutorial:

The finished bowl cozy with a bowl in place. This is going to be so handy. I think I am going to need to make a few more!

The sewing machine I am using is a Brother SE-350 Sewing & Embroidery Machine, it is discontinued but there are similar machines available.
