Let’s Etch a Coaster

I transformed a Dollar Tree coaster into something truly special using etchall crème and homemade rubbing wax. The etching process was quick and easy, creating a subtle yet striking design on the coaster. To enhance the etched areas, I applied my homemade rubbing wax, which added a pop of color and made the details stand out beautifully. The combination of etched texture and vibrant wax creates a unique, personalized piece that’s perfect for gifting or adding a creative touch to your home decor.

I used a purchased image from Design Space. With my Cricut Maker, I cut the design from vinyl and carefully transferred it onto the coaster.

I applied the etching creme and waited 15 minutes for it to etch.

To make the DIY rubbing wax I used clear shoe polish and mica powder in equal amounts.

I couldn’t leave well enough alone! Since the coaster was absorbent, I decided to test my DIY wax on the entire surface to see how it would transform the design. To my surprise, the etched areas acted as a resist, creating a striking contrast against the waxed background. This version has a softer, more vintage look compared to the original, where the etched design was more pronounced. Both styles have their charm, but I’d love to hear which one you prefer—let me know in the comments below!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day Coaster

I am not Irish but when I think of St. Patrick’s Day the first thing that comes to mind is green beer. I guess it is a throwback to my college days. So I created this Happy St. Partick’s Day coaster. The design is more like a seal so it could work well on other substrates like a t-shirt or a tote. The image is a free SVG file so you can download it and resize it however you’d like.
