Redeeming Love : The Movie

I saw an early release of Redeeming Love, here are my thoughts.

I am probably one in the minority that has never heard of the book Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. So I didn’t know what to expect going into the viewing of the newly released movie by Universal Pictures. I imagine the lovers of the book will head in droves to see this release.

Knowing very little going into the viewing, but that it was a Christian-based movie, I was uncomfortable with the themes of prostitution, sex trafficking, and child abuse. I didn’t connect it to the story of Hosea in the bible until afterward.  These hard themes are handled well in the movie sharing enough for you to understand the situation without making it too uncomfortable to view.

Did I enjoy the movie? – a hesitant yes. I struggled with Angel continuing to turn back to her abusive lifestyle. I don’t relate or understand the emotional reasons for doing it so it frustrated me. On the other hand, all the scenes with Michael portrayed him as content and confident in himself. You could see it in his demeanor and actions to the point of almost being unrealistic. Even with the differences between these two characters, I found myself liking them both.

Now having seen the movie, I am interested in reading the book. I can’t speak to how similar the two versions are to each other. I would be interested in knowing what others think who have read the book prior to seeing the movie.
