Frozen 2 :: review

Tonight my daughters and I went to a screening of Frozen 2. It is often the case that a sequel doesn't live up to the original. Even if the movie was mediocre it will be wildly popular with the junior set. With Frozen 2 that isn't the case, it actually was better than the original in our opinion. I know that is hard to imagine. Leaving the theater I heard a woman say she wasn't a Disney fan but she really enjoyed the movie and was surprised with her own opinion. The animation was amazing. Having studied animation many of the techniques for transparency, wind, water, and hair have improved so much over the years. The score will become very popular. Many of the songs had catchy tunes and easy to remember and hum right away. With popular names like Weezer and Panic at the Disco doing covers of songs in the movie, the soundtrack will have an even farther-reaching appeal. Our emotions took a little trip during the show. We laughed and it wasn't forced, we even cried a little bit. But for me, the best part was hearing the young children in the audience react to different events in the movie. Much like on an airplane, having a theater full of babies and toddlers can make you hesitate and question if you really want to be there but for this show, you will really want them there. They add to the whole experience.

Synopsis: Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven, she'll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.
