Buttons Galore & More sent me a button kit to create a decorative carrot, and I had so much fun putting my own spin on it! Instead of starting directly on the canvas, I first added a decoupage napkin to create a soft, textured background. Once that was dry, I built the carrot on top using the buttons from the kit. The layered buttons add great dimension and color, while the napkin background gives the whole piece a finished, artistic look.

Here are the buttons and canvas from the kit.

I first applied ModPodge with a foam brush to the canvas, and then applied the 1ply decorative layer of the napkin on top. I rolled a brayer over the top of the napkin to make sure it was down smooth to the canvas.

After applying a layer of ModPodge on top of the napkin on the front of the canvas, I folded the napkin around to the back of the canvas and sealed it in place with ModPodge.

I placed the buttons on the canvas to figure out the layout and then secured them with hot glue.

To tone down the pattern in the napkin, I added a layer of white washed paint to the canvas.

I added some raffia and a shear bow to finish off the carrot.
