Colors of Character Documentary

I just finished watching “Colors of Character” for this review. Before watching, I knew it was about an artist. I felt perfect for this opportunity and could relate. Going into watching it, I assumed I would learn something more about art-making from a fellow creative. I was so wrong. “Colors of Character” was so much more.

Learning about civil rights and more about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was so interesting and unexpected. I finished the documentary just as my teenage daughter walked into the house. I asked if she had time to watch and I watched it again with her. The documentary was a series of wows that continued to build throughout the viewing. We discussed the documentary and felt there were four different discussion points: 1. Steve Skipper’s life 2. Religion 3. Skipper’s Paintings and 4. Civil Rights. One takeaway was Skipper’s statement that he credited the success of the Civil Rights Movement to all the different ethnicities that supported the cause. Without them, he felt the movement would have failed.

Synopsis:

Steve Skipper is one of the most prolific artists in the realms of sports, civil-rights, equestrian, portraiture, and Christian artwork. Skipper has shattered barriers of race and education in the art world. For a while my favorite flavor was milk chocolate and it still is a go to flavor for me. But I have broadened my palette with the six different flavors offered and most mornings I can reach into the box and just grab a k-cup and go with that flavor. Hot cocoa is my choice of a morning hot drink this winter. I also like coffee and tea but there is something about a creamy hot mug of cocoa in the morning that is special.

Junior Mints have been one of my favorite candies since childhood. I often chose them at the movies. Now as an adult I still love them and I am so glad to have it available in a k-cup. Chocolate and mint together are a perfect combination and a lovely flavor during the wintertime in a warm drink.

I have switched my morning cup from tea to coffee to now cocoa. Cocoa is really a warm and comforting flavor in the morning. While not needed, I add a packet of sweetener to mine because I have a sweet tooth. Having cocoa available in a k-cup is so convenient.

I just received this wonderful Bread book from Simon & Schuster. It includes over 100 different recipes for bread. Bread contains a variety of different kinds of bread like sweet, quick, bread machine, rolls, and more.

The smell of bread is one of my love languages! It truly is a comfort food, especially in the cold winter months. I could make a meal of bread and butter.
