How to Make Earrings with Buttons

with Buttons Galore and More

button earrings

Buttons Galore and More sent me Smiley Buttons to make jewelry. The first piece I made was a bracelet. I had set aside these green buttons for a pair of earrings requested by my daughter. I added striped beads that matched the buttons to add to the length of the earrings. Silver spacer beads I used in the bracelet were also used as spacers for the earrings.

See the video below to learn how I punched out small circular faux leather for the back of the earrings.

The bracelet and earrings work well as a set or as individual pieces. Let me know which you like better in the comments below.

A Simple DIY Foil Technique for Tag it Tuesday

finished tag

This week’s tag uses aluminum foil for an embossing technique. Using aluminum foil for crafting offers a variety of different looks. I applied foil onto the cardstock and then embossed it. From there, I roughed up the embossed image and applied ink.

embossed foil

Here is a close-up look at the embossed foil and cardstock. You can see some of the sanded surfaces on the raised image. This step is optional and is not needed if you want to add ink. You do need to be gentle if you choose to sand the foil because it can tear easily.

Freebie Friday – Floral Paper Bags

floral paper bags

This week’s Freebie is a pair of printable floral paper bags. Consider using a decorative scissor to cut along the top edge for additional design. The printable bags can also be used as pockets for your paper crafting. Don’t forget you can always change the size of the printable in your printer dialog box.

Grab the free printable PDF file here: [Floral Bags]

My favorite printer brand for many years has been HP. I also use their ink supply service where I pay a monthly fee and they send me ink cartridges as needed. It comes out to be a lot less money this way. The HP Envy Inspire is a great-priced machine that will produce beautiful prints.

And if you are looking for a great crafting weight paper for printables, I have been using HP Project Paper. It is heavier than copier paper but not quite as heavy as cardstock. It is a great medium weight for layering, folding, and more!

This is a great opportunity to share your latest blog post, recipe, craft tutorial, or any other creative work you’ve been working on lately. We’re always excited to see what our readers come up with! However, we have a few simple rules to ensure the party runs smoothly.

Here are a few simple rules:

  • Link to a specific post, not your homepage.
  • Link up something YOU made/wrote/created.
  • Giveaways, other link parties, or business links are not accepted.
  • Don’t link and run. Try to visit at least one link and show them some love. You may make a new friend.

How to Make a Bracelet with Buttons

with Buttons Galore and More

bracelet

Buttons Galore and More sent me Smiley Buttons to make jewelry. The first piece I made was a bracelet. I didn’t want the buttons to overlap so I had to figure out how to space them. I chose to use silver beads between the buttons.

The stringing material is stretchy so no clasp or closure was needed. I think both the front and back of the bracelet are interesting and could be worn either way.

Faux Texture Paste – Tag it Tuesday

finished tag

This week’s tag uses a household product as a faux texture paste. I started with white ink and it didn’t work as well as I envisioned. I added sequins, ink blended the edges, and a raised sentiment. While the sequins darkened the look, they also added a bit of sparkle when moved in the light.

Video Tutorial:

In the close-up image you can see the depth and texture of the paste. I like the activity created by the pinwheel stencil.

Materials:

  • stamp and die set from OneDaySavings. https://bit.ly/3YCrMWc
  • Stencil and Paper from Brutus Monroe
  • Sequins – Spellbinders
  • Ink – Makers Forte

Let’s Etch a Decorative Jar

with etchall creme

finished jar

I have been saving this glass jar for a special project. I knew I wanted to etch the glass with etchall creme. But I wanted to do some decorative elements as well. I planned to use temporary tattoos on the etched glass. I have seen the technique and I like the results. But, it is easier said than done. I wasn’t successful. So I changed my plan and added glitter glue and I like this result better than my original plan.

clean with alcohol

Before starting any etching project, you want to clean your glass with rubbing alcohol. I keep mine in a little spray bottle for ease of use. The alcohol cleans off any dirt especially oils that can stop the glass from being etched.

vinyl

I cut two strips of vinyl and wrapped them around the jar to protect the areas I didn’t want to etch with the etching creme. The wrinkles don’t matter as long as they aren’t along the seam of the vinyl where the etching creme will come in contact with the vinyl.

Then I applied the etchall creme to the middle exposed area. I set my timer for 15 minutes. Once the time had passed, I removed as much of the etching creme as I could, and returned it to the jar. etchall creme is reusable and odorless.

etched jar

Remove the remaining etching creme by washing the glass, remove the vinyl, and discard it. The jar looks so nice with the etched band around the middle.

zazzle and stickles

To add a decoration on top of the etched area of the jar, I used crystal Zazz! and green Stickles.

close up

The center of the design is colored crystal with the green added around the outside similar to a flower or sun ray design. I continued this design element around the entire etched middle band.
