Shaving Cream Marbling Coasters

Learn how to marble sublimation inks for colorful coasters. #artesprix

with Artesprix

coasters

I  am thrilled to be a guest designer at Artesprix using the textured coasters. I actually experimented with a technique I’ve been wanting to try, shaving cream marbling. I wondered if it would work with the sublimation inks. These coasters are the results of my experiment.

inks

Materials:

shaving cream

After filling the pan with shaving cream and using the scrapper to smooth the surface, I dropped eight drops of each color onto the shaving cream.

marbled

Swirl the ink into the shaving cream until you like the design. Then place the paper on top of the design and press down until you see the entire surface of the paper appears covered.

lifted

Lift the paper off of the shaving cream and then place it on a flat surface.

ink on paper

Scrap the shaving cream off the paper. Set the paper aside to dry.

designs and product

The ink and shaving cream can be used over and over again. You can add ink as needed or use what remains. Here are the two designs I tested out on the coasters.

sandwich

Once the area of the design was chosen, I used heat-resistant tape to hold the paper in place. Then sandwiched that between protective paper.

easypress

I used a Cricut EasyPress at the settings recommended on the Artesprix website.

peek test

After heat setting, do a peek test before totally removing the sublimation design from the blank. Be careful handling the blank since it will be hot.

finished coasters

The results are quite colorful. I am happy with the results and I look forward to trying it again with the Artesprix paint.

Back to School Book Tags

Free back to school printables blog hop. #printables #school_tag

I can’t believe summer is over for so many kids and they are heading back to school. Thankfully we are headed out on vacation and don’t go back to school until after labor day. But before we leave, I wanted to share with you these useful back-to-school backpack tags. There are two different styles for you to choose from. One with the information front and center, and the other with the information under a flap because I know you don’t want to share personal information with just anyone. See how easy and quick these are to make.

Materials:

  • free pdf printables [flap tag] [no flap tag]
  • white cardstock
  • color printer
  • scissors or pen knife or paper cutter
  • packing tape
  • ribbon

Directions:

printouts for backpack tags
Begin by choosing which printout you want.

cut out tags for backpacks
Cut out the tags. I used a paper cutter to do so.

cover in packing tape backpack tags
If using this type of tag, write the information in the window available.
This style is great for little ones so they can find the correct bus without worry.
Then cover in packing tape.

flip up cutting for backpack tags
If you are using this style of tag, cover it in packing tape first, then cut along the lines for the flip tab opening.
Cut off the half circle at the top of the tag (there isn’t a line there)

inside information for backpack tags
Both styles will get folded at this point.
I used the excess packing tape along the top edge and folded it over to close the tag.
Open the flap and write in your personal information.
This style is great for sharing information but not having it visible to any passerby.
If you desire, you can also tape closed the sides of the tag with packing tape.

ribbon for backpack tags
I use ribbon to tie the tags onto backpacks.
I burn the ends to make sure they don’t unravel.

finished backpack tags
Cut a slit at the top and slide the ribbon through.
The tags are ready to place on backpacks.

tie in place backpack tags
Just tie in place and they are ready to go!

Shrink Film Earrings

Make earrings with Shrink Plastic from @grafixinc and jewelry supplies from @beebeecraft. #affiliate

finished earrings

I enjoy making earrings. Often when I get an art supply I think about how I can make jewelry with it and that is the case when I got a set of beautiful stamps from BeebeeCraft, GLOBLELAND Flowers, and Leaves Background Silicone Clear Stamps.

stamped and inking

After stamping the shrink film with Stazon ink and trimming them down to the stamped image, I turned them over and applied alcohol ink with a cosmetic sponge.

after shrinking

Before shrinking, I used a paper punch to punch holes for hanging, and then I used a heat gun to shrink the film. To finish off the shrink film pieces, I coated each side with a single layer of UV Resin.

materials

I used Benecreat wire and Mixed Green Round Glass Seed Beads from BeebeeCraft to finish the earrings.
