Multiple techniques on a Valentine’s Day Card

Using a variety of techniques on Stardream cardstock for a Valentine’s day card. #affiliate @cutcardstock @officialcricut

valentine's day card

Using Stardream cardstock as the base for my card, I created a Valentine’s Day card. Testing out the usability of the Stardream cardstock, I used a variety of different techniques. Drawing on the cardstock with markers, gluing an element down, and adding vinyl, the Stardream cardstock accepted all without any special effort.

This post is created for the CutCardStock design team where I post twice a month.

materials

The card stock used for this project was Stardream Metallic in Eris. CutCardStock has a ton of different colors of Stardream to choose from, they are all just beautiful and my favorite cardstock from CutCardStock.

cricut maker

I used my Cricut Maker to cut vinyl and draw on the card base. In the image above you can see the pen installed into the A slot. The Cricut only draws the outlines of letters so if you want solid letters you need to color them in.

colored in type

Here the letters are colored in and I have added a small heart over the apostrophe that I colored in to match the colored letters, I am also checking out the placement of the vinyl heart.

A close-up of the card shows the little heart better. Looking closely, you can also notice the two colors of the word valentine’s, which gives a slight dimensional look to the letters.

coloring

To create the image I am using a layering technique. I stamped the image and with the use of a light table, I can see the image and know where to add the color. Then I stamped the image on top of the colored work. The reason for doing it this way was to illuminate the possibility of the inks bleeding together. You can see how this was done in the video below.

colored image

I actually did the entire process twice. I started with pastel colors as seen in the first image. They did transfer but weren’t visible enough for my taste so I did it again with brighter colors as seen above. Here I am making the sublimation sandwich to transfer the image.

sublimation sandwich

This image show what is referred to as a sublimation sandwich. Working on a heat-resistant surface, I have a layer of protective paper, then the ribbon faces up, the colored and stamped image face down is held in place with heat-resistant tape, and the entire thing will be covered with another piece of protective paper before heating.

iron

Because my project is small I chose to use a craft iron instead of a heat press. With the iron set on high and no steam, I used a bit of pressure and left the iron on for a minute. Before removing the tape and image you will want to do a peek test to make sure everything is transferred.

This post is created for the Gwen Studios design team. Other projects can be found on the Designer Crafts Connection website. Gwen Studios ribbons can be found at Walmart and Michaels.

Making Winter Cards

with CutCardStock

cards

Using Stardream cardstock and one cut file, I created two cards. The cutting file has a variety of different ways to use the parts. A band with snowflakes knocked out, the snowflakes, and three words.

cardstock

The card stock used for this project was Stardream Metallic in Eris and Stardream Metallic in Lapis Lazuli. CutCardStock has a ton of different colors of Stardream to choose from, they are all just beautiful and my favorite cardstock from CutCardStock.

cut parts

These are the parts cut for this project. After I designed the band and was cutting it out, I realized that the negative parts could also be used.

cricut maker
Cricut Maker

I cut the cardstock on my Cricut Maker. The Lapus Lazuli is 105 lb cardstock so I cut it using a setting of 100 lb and cut it twice. To do so, after the first cut, don’t remove the mat and push the start button again for a double cut.

A bit of glue and two different cards were made in no time at all.
