Making a Ribbon Bracelet

Learn how to make a ribbon bracelet with ribbons from Gwen Studios.

with Gwen Studios

Making a bracelet to match a certain outfit or making a bracelet for gift-giving is easily done with Gwen Studio’s ribbons. I am using three different Gwen Studios ribbons. One is an open-grid decorative ribbon paired with coordinating grosgrain and satin. The color coordination began with a central bead in mind.

materials

The materials used are ribbons from Gwen Studios, scissors, jewelry pliers, bead, clasp, jump rings, pinch crimps, and Fabri-tac.

Use the pinch clamp to collect the ribbons and then add a clasp. After adding the central bead to the ribbons, use the other pinch clamp and the second part of the clasp on the other end of the ribbons. I added a fussy twist into the middle of my ribbons that took a bit more attention to the creation but it really isn’t necessary to do. Make sure to watch the entire tutorial in the video below.

Craft an Alcohol Ink Ornament

Learn how fun and addictive making alcohol ink ornaments can be.

final ornament

Making a Christmas ornament with alcohol ink is so addictive. The look of the ornament changes over the process of making it so you can’t control it as much as you would like. However, the changes are interesting and fun to compare. This ornament has a lining of white paint and Irridescent Medium to help see the colors more vibrant.

materials

I used a plastic ornament I bought on sale at the end of the season last year. T-rex brand alcohol ink, silver Adirondack ink, a paper cup, white acrylic paint, dust cleaner, and Liquitex acrylic medium.

with ink

The ornament with ink applied to the inside is shown above. The color here is more intense (or dark) than the end results. There is a tip in the video tutorial to apply the ink.

pouring paint

For the colors to show brighter, I applied paint on top of the ink. You need to wait for the ink to dry and the paint to dry. There are tips in the video tutorial.

Video Tutorial:

One thing I noticed over time is the pink and purple didn’t end up being visible after the completion of the ornament. The blue, silver and some green became more dominant. I thought maybe the Liquitex contained some ingredient that made the ink move but after making another ornament with the same colors and no Liquitex, it still faded. So it must be something about that particular color.

Cross Stitch Craft

Check out this cross stitch kit review, it contains a few new features.

from NewDayCraft.com

wreath

The image above is the wreath kit I chose from New Day Craft. Opening the kit and looking through the materials I noticed a few things that were different than what I have seen in other kits making this rather unique.

threads

The Cross Stitch kits contain everything you need except a pair of scissors. The threads are already sorted and labeled to coordinate with the chart printed on the fabric.

printed chart

The printed guide also contains the chart. If you look closely on the right side you see the corresponding numbers to the threads on the palette. The color blocks to the far right are the actual colors of the thread to use. The pattern is printed in coordinating colors. I’ve never seen this change in a pattern before.

fabric

The printed fabric appears very similar to the printed chart. The other difference I’ve noticed is that the colored ink on the fabric will wash away when finished. The chart contains instructions for how to do this. Of course, you will need to keep your project dry until you completely finish it.

Safe Ceramic Cutting Tools

Slice makes safer knives for a variety of different uses: crafters, home use, office use, warehouse use…

with Slice

cutting tools

Are you familiar with Slice Products? These are some of the safest cutting tools available. Slice has a variety of different knives. The picture above shows a variety of their crafting blades. Slice ceramic blades are slightly thicker than other ceramic blades. They don’t rust as steel blades do. While it is possible to puncture the skin with a lot of pressure, it is not likely to do so with general use making these great tools for crafting, manufacturing, and warehouse use. Slice is also a great brand to teach children how to use a pen blade knife with its added level of safety.

How to Etch a Candle

Process:

rubbing alcohol

Remove all the labels from the glass and clean it with rubbing alcohol. The higher the content of alcohol the better. In a pinch, you can use hand sanitizer to clean with.

Cricut Joy

For the size of this project, I was able to cut the vinyl on a Cricut Joy. I used a free design and font in the design program for the Vinyl Sticker design. (Leaf Embellishment #M3A9A159F) If you don’t have a cutting machine you can cut vinyl by hand or use a paper punch design.

cut vinyl

After the cut is finished, weed away the design.

apply vinyl

When I apply vinyl, I fold the vinyl in half to mark the middle. Then I apply it to the candle, middle first, and smooth it out from there. Wrinkles in the vinyl are OK as long as the design is smooth and sealed against the glass.

applied creme

Apply the etching creme generously to the design. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Then remove the creme and replace it in the jar to use again. Wash the design and remove the vinyl. I use a baby wipe when the design is small enough and then clean the glass with rubbing alcohol.

finished etching

Here is the result of the etching.

ribbon and wax

To finish off the look of the candle, I applied rubbing wax to the design in silver to enhance the design and wrapped a coordinating ribbon around the neck of the glass container.

Start Mandala Painting

How to start dot painting.

trio of mandalas

Dot Mandala painting is trendy. It isn’t a difficult craft but it does require practice. You can build on your technique and difficulty of imagery. To start you will want some basic craft paint, a few tools for dot-making (which can be found around your house), a pallet, and paper.

The links provided are for your use and may contain affiliate links.
They cost nothing for you to use.
Thank you in advance for supporting this site with its use.

dot painting

Tools you can use to make dots can be made. Here is a tutorial for making your own ball tool [DIY Ball Tool]. Other items you might want to collect and try:

  • push pin
  • end of paintbrush
  • dry pen
  • pencil eraser
  • needle
  • dowel
  • knitting needle
  • crochet hook
pallet and tools

Next, you will want to get your paint to the right consistency. Adding a bit of water if needed to make a liquid or runny paint. I am using craft paint from Arteza.

If you don’t want to mix water into your paint you may want to buy paint made for pour painting since it will be a good consistency for dot painting. Arteza has a variety of pour paint sets. There are even color sets that coordinate. And if you are truly just getting started and have no materials, you might be interested in the Arteza Dot Tool Kit. It includes everything you will need except paint.

After practicing your dots and you are now ready to paint a mandala, many people start with a stencil. There are many stencils you can use to create mandalas. If you have a personal cutting machine you can use this SVG file and cut one, to begin with. [madala stencil]
