Making Jewelry with Felt

Make jewelry with felt beads made from Kunin Felt.

with Kunin Felt

It is time to start your holiday crafting and these pieces of felt jewelry would be perfect for gift giving. Each piece is made with a felt bead. This post will show you the different ways to make felt beads. The pieces above use a spiral bead technique.

I would like to thank Designer Crafts Connection for the opportunity to work with amazing companies and designers. And specifically for this post, I would like to thank Kunin Felt for providing materials used with this project.

Kunin Felt’s manufactured in the US from recycled plastic bottles reclaimed from landfills. It takes 10 bottles to make a pound of fiber. Kunin Felt‘s sold at Michaels under the Creatology Brand, at JoAnn, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Fabric.com, and Amazon.

Materials:

  • ruler
  • marker
  • felt
  • beads
  • jewelry findings and tools
  • sewing clips
  • scissors
  • Fabri-Tac

The image above shows a few different ways to roll into beads. The top bead looks similar to a rose and rolls up with small pieces of felt inserted. This bead is a good way to use up scraps. The other two are spirals using three and two different colors of felt.

Here is another way to use up scraps. This bead uses small pieces of felt stacked together and threaded onto a wire.

hanging earrings

Look how nice these look. The staggered pieces add to the shape and interest of the earrings. I have worn these earrings and they are very comfortable and lightweight. Because the felt is so light, I suggest adding beads that have a bit of weight to them. (Oh my gosh, the second ear wire is missing some elements, I am going to have to change that out! I didn’t notice it until writing this post. And as I said, I have worn them out!)

DIY Christmas Tree Earrings

Die cut a pair of Christmas tree earrings using shrink plastic three different ways.

with Scrapbook.com

3 pairs of earrings

Fun for the holidays, fun for gift-giving, make a pair of Christmas tree earrings with a die from Scrapbook.com, and shrink film. I’ve shown three different designs all made from the same die. The green earrings are using alcohol ink, the rose gold earrings used a stamp pad, and the silver and black pair were stamped with a rubber stamp.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

die and shrink film

To make the earrings I used the smallest die from the Nested Tree Dies and shrink film from Grafix. I used white and silver shrink film.

Materials:

  • Nested Tree Die
  • Shrink film – white, silver
  • CrossOver II
  • alcohol inks
  • Rose gold stamp pad
  • Stazon ink pad
  • rubber stamp
  • jewelry making tools and findings
  • Alcohol ink marker (green)
  • UV light
  • UV resin
  • hole punch
  • toaster oven

Video Tutorial:

As the film shrinks, the colors become more intense. While there was a pattern on the rose gold trees, it is all but gone once shrunk. However, they did take on a more metallic sheen almost like glitter. Do you have a favorite pair?

Make sure you stop at every crafty post along the way for Christmas magic and inspiration!

Snowflake Box :: Free SVG

Make this festive snowflake box for your holiday gift giving with the free SVG file.

with CutCardStock

snowflake box

Just in time for your holiday gift-giving is this free SVG file to make a Snowflake Box. Or if you need a plain box, just remove the design element and you have a standard square box template. The great thing about this box design is that you can make it and then store it flat until you need it.

I used Habanero cardstock.

cricut maker

I cut the file on a Cricut Maker at a setting of 100#. The cardstock is 80# cover weight but cuts really well at a slightly larger setting.

The SVG file comes with cut and score lines. You will need to set the lines to score before cutting. The file comes with a square shape to insert into the top of the box. However, I just freehand cut mine to save time. I suggest using wet glue to insert the top piece as well as the seal on the side of the box. It tends to hold better than other options.

Video Tutorial:

open box

Here you can see the box together and open ready for the gift to be placed inside. You really don’t need anything additional. The box will hold itself close and since there is a decoration on the box, no ribbon is needed either.

Above is a close-up of the snowflake decoration on the top of the box. I think adding some decorative gems to the circles could make this extra special. You might also consider using acetate or vellum instead of cardstock for the insert.

How to Make a Fairy Door Card

Making a Fairy Door card with Fairy Stamper. The door opens with a fairy inside.

with Fairy Stamper

card

The moment I saw the Fairy Door stamp, I knew the door needed to open. I chose to stamp on papers I had made with my Gelli plate. I enhanced those pieces and did a bit of fussy cutting. You can see the entire process in the video tutorial towards the bottom of this post.

Many of the items I use in posts are provided by the manufacturers to promote their products.

  • blending brushes
  • Izink spray inks
  • DIY gold spray *
  • woodless pencils

fussy cut

The above image shows the Fairy Door stamp on a Gelli plate print after being fussy cut. The Gelli plate print dictates the colors that get used for the rest of the process.

After a bunch of different steps, the four pieces that make up the card are ready to be put together. In the end, I chose to color on top of the Fairy Door stamp but that could be easily done before the card is put together. I used enough foam tape that I was easily able to color on it after assembly.

Here is the card finished with the door open and the little fairy condo dweller answering the door.

Making a Gift Tag

Making a gift tag inspired by ephemera.

Sometimes the materials suggest the project. This is the case with my gift tag made with pieces of ephemera. I loved the little girl knitting and it seemed like the perfect idea to make a gift tag to go with a special handmade knitted gift. The little girl image also set the color theme. I only wish she were crocheting because I do that more often than knitting.

Materials:

To begin, I chose to distress the edges of the colored card stock pieces. I cut the mint cardstock tag first, then the mustard tag a bit larger on all four sides. The mustard rectangle was a leftover piece from cutting the tag. Notice the hole isn’t punched yet in the mustard tag so I can align it correctly with the mint piece. These pieces were cut on the Works Board using the guide for making tags.

Here are all the individual parts ready to put together with The Best Glue Ever. You can watch how it was done in the following video tutorial. While the ribbon bow coordinates well, I couldn’t find the right spot to place it on the tag.

nov box

I am so excited every month when my  Simply Earth box arrives. It seems like each box is better than the last. This month is no exception. The November theme is gift giving! It’s so timely to make items for yourself, for friends, and for family. What a great way to get someone interested in essential oils. This box’s contents retail for $109.92 but you will get it for $39. Be sure to use my discount code: TRYITFREE

This post contains affiliate links

The oils that are included this month are Winter Spice, Cassia, Lime, and Candy Cane. Not only are these oils theme appropriate, but they are also seasonally appropriate.

The recipes included in the November box are:

  • Oatmeal Cookie Sugar Scrub
  • Candy Lip Balm
  • Forever Thankful Roll-on
  • Gift Diffuser Blend
  • Winter Joy Bath Salts
  • DIY Air Dry Clay Diffuser Ornament

One of the biggest differences I find with Simply Earth is the monthly recipes. In the past, I have ordered essential oils and when they arrive, I don’t remember what they do or why I ordered them. The Simply Earth recipe box contains the recipes for the oils included in the box as well as necessary additional support products to make the recipes.

I was so excited to receive a copy of the “I Love My Air Fryer” Affordable Meals Recipe Book. We have a small air fryer and honestly only use it for heating frozen foods or leftovers. I can’t wait to expand our use and possibly buy a larger air fryer. There are 175 low-cost recipes included. Each recipe contains a cost estimate so you can easily stay on budget and manage food costs. You’ll also find beautiful photos, a guide to getting the most out of your air fryer, and practical, easy-to-follow ways to spend less and save big at the grocery store.

Above is an example of how the recipes appear in the book. Doesn’t this look scrumptious? And the total recipe cost is less than $12! Having lived in Maryland for a few years, I might want to substitute the creole seasoning with Old Bay seasoning.
