Designing a Leaf Letterhead

The Leaf Letterhead SVG file can be used in a variety of different ways.

with CutCardStock

decor piece

This leaf letterhead svg file is very versatile. I’ve created a finished decor piece with it to show you how it could be used. The design was created to be used in a variety of different ways like a letter, menu, invitation, announcement, and any other way you can imagine. You don’t have to put another piece behind the design, or on top of it as shown. It is just one option for this file.

The Royal Sundance Card Stock in Brilliant White is the star of this post and the card stock that was cut. It’s joined with Stardream Metallic Gold and Glama Card Stock in Kraft. The poem was printed using my Cricut Maker and the Kraft card stock but it could also be printed on a printer.

Cricut Maker

Use a personal cutting machine that works with an SVG file. I am using a Cricut Maker for cutting and writing. Because the design is 8.5″ x 11″, and the card stock is the same size, you have to pay attention to the alignment on your mat. The Kraft card stock was written on and cut on the Cricut Maker too. I used a 0.4 black Cricut pen for the writing.

finished clutch

This clutch handbag is perfect for a wedding or any formal occasion. It can be made with no sewing at all. The beautiful satin and ribbon are from Gwen Studios. As a new member of their design team, I will be posting projects every month using their wonderful products that are available at Walmart.

materials
materials

I received a box full of different materials from Gwen Studios. The ribbon and satin shown above are what I chose to work with to make this handbag tutorial.

Directions:

fabric, foam, placemat

Step 1
The structure of the handbag is made with a plastic placemat, white craft foam, and Gwen Studios satin fabric. The placemat provides support and is covered on both sides. Satin fabric on the outside of the handbag and the craft foam on the inside.

ribbons and fabri-tac

Step 2
The decorative band on the front of the handbag was made by stacking three different ribbons from Gwen Studios with Fabri-Tac. This was done while the handbag structure was drying.

side of clutch

Step 3
The sides of the clutch are made by using white craft foam. Two pieces were cut to the height of the clutch and then glued with Fabri-Tac to the front and back of the inside. Once the glue is dry, just push the foam into the middle of the clutch.

velcro circles

Step 4
Velcro is used for the closure of the handbag. The velcro circles came with adhesive but I added additional support with a bit of Fabri-Tac.

Video Tutorial:

clutch and lipstick case

Using the same technique, I made a lipstick case to go inside the clutch. The differences are craft foam for the structure, double stick tape for the adhesive, and a snap closure instead of velcro.

Make a Paper Spin Toy

Easy kids craft, make a spinning paper toy.

Materials:

I used cardstock but any paper will work. Cut the strips to 3/4″ x 8.5″. Using cardstock you will need about six strips. The exact dimensions and amount of strips really aren’t important but you do want to build up the width. The only important thing is to make sure you roll the strips tightly around the toothpick.

Seasonal Crafty Finds

There are a lot of seasonal crafty finds at the Dollar Tree.

at the Dollar Tree

I love searching the Dollar Tree for craft finds. Their craft products really do help with saving the crafting budget and so many of their items are just as good as the name brands and in some cases, you will find name brand items. All stores now have a Crafter’s Square section which is Dollar Tree’s own craft brand.

buckets

I loved the look of these buckets. I think they would look nice if you styled them for your home fall decor with some flowers. They are also nice for making a gift basket, similar to an easter basket.

foil ribbon

These lovely ribbons have foiled leaves on them and just scream fall to me. I bought the gold version last year and used it for a background of a decor wall hanging. The quality is so nice and you can’t beat the price. I was glad to see them back this year.

Check out this name brand find I spotted at one of my local stores. I can definitely attest to the fact that they cost way more than a dollar. The exact Wilton mold found on the Sears website was for $4.99. While these Wilton leaf molds are great for fall candy making, you can also use them for working with clay plaster of paris, or paper mache. I bet you could also use them for toilet paper embossing. Let me know if you have additional crafty uses for these candy molds.

I recently posted a YouTube video of all my Halloween and Fall crafty finds. You can see what I found in the video below:

And don’t forget, if there is something specific you need and can’t find, check out Dollar Tree online. While many of their items are sold in bulk, they do offer some items in smaller quantities. There is a link to them at the bottom of the hamburger. Chose ship to store and you don’t have to pay for shipping.

Ghostly Table Decor

Learn how to make this light-up ghost with easy-to-follow directions.

The leaves are falling and there is a slight chill in the air. Is that chill from the weather or our ghostly friend? This easy-to-make ghost will add a festive look to your decor, on a table or the mantle. Make one or a few. Included the kids – they will love the messy factor of the fabric stiffener!

Materials:

  • DIY fabric stiffener (* recipe below)
  • White fabric (muslin, cotton, t-shirt, fabric diaper)
  • Googly eyes
  • @Glue Dots
  • Aluminum foil
  • Armature structure for ghost (**suggestions below)
  • Electric light – or electric candle

Ghost Directions:

Cover your work surface with aluminum foil, cover the armature with foil as well.

Place the fabric into the fabric stiffener, using your hands make sure the cloth is completely saturated. (this is the fun messy part)

Drape the saturated fabric over the armature. Take some time to place the fabric and adjust the folds. If you have areas of fabric that are longer than other areas, tuck them under so the bottom edge of the fabric is all at the same level.

Allow the fabric to completely dry.

Once dry, remove the fabric from the armature.

Attach the Googly eyes to the fabric using Glue Dots.

Place the light under the ghost and he is good to go boo all your friends.

*To make the fabric stiffener:
You will need:
water
corn starch

Directions:
On the stove, boil 1/4 cup of water.
In a separate bowl, mix 1/4 cup of cold water and a Tbsp of corn starch. (mix well)
Add the cold mixture to the boiling water in the pan.
Stir constantly and allow the mixture to boil.
Remove from heat and allow it to cool.

** Armature:
An armature is a structure similar to a skeleton. It is the framework that will hold up and shape your fabric while it drys.

The Purex crystals bottle was the perfect shape, round at the top with long sides.

To make a similar shape, place a tennis ball on top of a soda can and cover it with foil.

Another option would be to put a small blown-up balloon into a glass and cover it with foil.
