Sublimation Earrings

Learn how to DIY your own sublimation earrings. #sponsored @artesprix @oliso

With Artesprix

Recently I was a guest designer at Artesprix. I really enjoyed the process of creating with Sublimation markers. When I saw sublimation earring blanks on Amazon I knew I needed to work with them. This is the first, but not the last, pair of earrings I will be making. I really like the idea of being able to make earrings in colors and designs to match my outfits. These sublimation earring blanks let me do just that. Follow along and learn how to make your own sublimation earrings.

Materials:

Many of the items I use in my posts are provided by the manufacturers in order to promote their products.

  • Artesprix markers
  • earring blanks
  • stamp
  • Artesprix stamp pad
  • Artesprix heat tape
  • Artesprix protective paper
  • Artesprix project mat
  • Oliso craft iron
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • rhinestones
  • super glue
  • permanent black marker

I chose to work with four of the markers included in the pastel marker set from Artesprix.

After the design is colored in, it is time to prepare the earrings for heat to transfer the design. Don’t forget to peel the protective layer from each side of the earrings before heating. A pin helped me easily remove the film.

It is really important to prepare the layers before applying heat. I have a project mat on my work surface, then a piece of protective paper. The blank with the design taped in place comes next with the colored paper on top. Then finally another piece of protective paper. Now you are ready to apply the heat. If using an iron, the heat tape is really important so the design doesn’t move around.

I added rhinestones to the center of the earrings and colored the edges with a permanent black marker to finish off the design.

Busy Bee Card

Making a busy bee card with Fairy Stamper. #sponsored @fairystamper @fairystamperhugs

With Fairy Stampers

This Busy Bee card is made with the Bees stamp from Fairy Stampers. Today I have a video tutorial on the Fairy Stampers YouTube channel as a part of their video design team. The card design was inspired by my wanting to try stamping on a ribbon and the size of the bees lent themselves to the process.

The patterned card stock adds to the activity of the bees flying. I like how the envelope in yellow relates to the yellow ribbon on the card and the little bee stamp on the flap connects it all together. There is also a little bee on the back of the card which you will see in the video tutorial below.

  • ribbon – yellow and cream
  • stamp pad
  • stamp block
  • Bee stamps – FHS-178
  • scissors
  • Xyron sticker maker

  • black card stock
  • sentiment
  • yellow card stock
  • tape runner
  • WRMK Works Board

The above image shows a close-up of the card and stamping on the ribbon. I like how the ribbon with the bees is solid and the ribbon behind the word is translucent.

If you are interested in the Word Art printable file I used for the word busy, it is available in the store [Word Art page] It is a really handy crafting material to have on hand. I printed one version out on card stock and another on sticker paper.

Making Gold Wall Art

Make a quick and easy modern room decor piece with a free SVG file. #sponsored @CutCardStock

With CutCardStock

Today I have a post on the CutCardStock blog for the above gold decor piece. I am using an SVG file to create the 3-dimensional room decor piece. The circular design and the gold paper give it a simple modern look. It is really easy to create using the free SVG file and your personal cutting machine. The materials needed are minimal and the project comes together quickly. You can change the look by easily changing the color of the cardstock to fit your decor.

  • Cutting Machine – Cricut Maker
  • Gold Cardstock
  • White Cardstock

  • picture frame
  • tape runner
Cricut Maker

I cut the SVG file on my Cricut Maker. Any personal cutting machine that works with an SVG can be used. I cut the Gold Cardstock on a setting of 100# cardstock with more pressure and cut it twice. I tape the cardstock to my mat with washi tape as an extra precaution since my mat isn’t extremely sticky.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is folded.jpg

After cutting the free SVG file, You will remove the circle shapes and then lift all the tab or V-shaped cuts. For a slightly different look, you can gently roll these lifted pieces in towards the center.

You can follow the video tutorial post on the CutCardStock blog for step-by-step instructions.

The above close-up image shows the detail and dimension of the lifted pieces. I like how the metallic gold paper shimmers in the light and the dimension casts different shadows throughout the day.

Making Origami Paper Magnets

Making DIY magnets with Yasutomo and the Dollar Tree. @Yasutomoart @DollarTree #sponsored

With Yasutomo Products

I love finding economical craft products and the Dollar Tree is one of those go-to stores for great finds. The moment I saw wooden magnets at the Dollar Tree, I knew they were going to be great for crafting. The shape of the magnets lent itself to be paired well with Origami paper. I applied Yasutomo Origami paper to the tops and coated them with a glossy spray to make these DIY magnets. Making a set of magnets was easy and would make a great handcrafted gift or housewarming present. You can make them fit your personal style and decor by changing the design of the Origami Paper.

Many of the items I use in my posts are provided by the manufacturers in order to promote their products.
A special thanks to those brands who sponsor this site.

Materials:

  • Origami paper – Yasutomo
  • wooden magnets – Dollar Tree
  • knife blade
  • paintbrush
  • Nori paste – Yasutomo
  • Gloss coat – Krylon

The process is rather easy and quick. The drying time is the only factor in the length of the project. I worked on these magnets over a few days due to the drying time of the final Krylon gloss coating. The actual crafting was quick and enjoyable.

Video Tutorial:

I am pleased with how the magnets turned out, they exceeded my expectations. I will be using them on our kitchen refrigerator. I have another package of magnets so I know I will be making more. Maybe for the office or my craft room. Let me know how you would use your own DIY Origami Magnets in the comments below.

Shaker Tag

Making a shaker tag with @jointhemakersmovement #sponsored

With Makers Movement

What a fun twist on making a shaker card, a shaker tag. The Makers Movement sent me a new set of Rainbow Shaker elements and I wanted to try them out. I was ready to make a shaker tag with the Nested Tag Die Set and the Hello Word Die.

Many of the items I use in my posts are provided by the manufacturers in order to promote their products.
A special thanks to those brands who sponsor this site.

Using the CrossOver II I cut my cardstock and transparency sheet. I used the nested dies to press into the adhesive foam core and then cut it with a craft knife. The CrossOver II can handle all kinds of material because it has a unique dial that can adjust the steel rollers for a variety of different thicknesses.

Here are all the cut pieces ready to begin assembling them together. You can see the entire process in the video tutorial below.

Video Tutorial:

The close-up above shows the thickness of the three layers of embossing powder. The pearlescent quality of the embossing changed the color of the card stock some of which add to the difference between the layers of white letters on the white tag.

Making a Paper Clock

Making a 3d clock out of paper with Dreaming Tree. @DesignerCraftsConnection @3dsvg @OfficialCricut #sponsored

With Dreaming Tree

Can you believe this is paper? This beautiful 3D floral paper clock is made using an SVG file from Dreaming Tree. I am so excited to be working with them on this post. I’ve admired Dreaming Tree from afar for a while. Their creations are amazing. I was a bit intimidated when I chose the clock file, but I found it really easy to work with once I got started.

I would first like to thank Designer Crafts Connection for the opportunity to work with amazing companies and designers. And specifically for this post, I would like to thank Dreaming Tree for providing me with the opportunity to work with their SVG files.

There are nine other projects created for this Design Crafts Connection hop. Please take a moment to visit all the projects to see which SVG file each designer chose and how they personalized their projects.

Many of the items I use in my posts are provided by the manufacturers in order to promote their products.
A special thanks to those brands who sponsor this site.

The Process:

card stock

Once I chose my card stock colors, I felt more confident. At least I had a plan to start with. All the card stock I chose, except for the navy, is from Cricut.

Cricut Maker

I cut all the card stock on my Cricut Maker. You can see I used washi tape on my mat as an extra precaution. A setting of 100# card stock worked well with all the cuts.

cut pieces

I followed the PDF file included in my download from Dreaming Tree and progressed through cutting all the different colors of card stock.

putting it together

I began following step by step with the video on the Dreaming Tree website for the pendulum clock file I chose. I did alter a few pieces and chose a different look for my clock. The more I progressed through the steps the more excited I became to see the end result! I couldn’t stop. I worked through the entire project in one sitting.

clock parts

I didn’t care for the gold clock hands that were included in my clock kit so I decided to change their color using an alcohol ink marker. Of course mixing yellow and blue make green, but I much preferred it to the gold hands.

Process Video:

If you would like to see the steps I took to make this clock, you can follow them in the video below.

close-up

Here is a close-up of the finished clock at an angle. I really loved the entire process. Although this was my first Dreaming Tree project, it definitely will not be my last!

And the best comment of all – I showed it to my teen daughter and she said, “Can I have it!”

DIY a Night Light with Vinyl

How I updated a night light from the Dollar Tree with a vinyl design. @OfficalCricut @DollarTree #affiliate

A Dollar Tree Craft

I found this plain night light at the Dollar Tree and I was drawn to it for a crafting project. As a craft designer, I always have my eye out for project ideas and the Dollar Tree is a great place to find economical items. With the use of my Cricut and a little bit of vinyl, I transformed this plain night light into something more decorative. Follow along for this quick and easy project.

Many of the items I use in my posts are provided by the manufacturers in order to promote their products.
I want to give special thanks to those brands who sponsor this site.

materials

Materials:

  • night light
  • Cricut Maker
  • Holographic Vinyl
  • transfer tape
  • Cricut design
  • scissors
  • washi tape (optional)
Cricut Maker

I cut the stencil design on my Cricut Maker using holographic Cricut vinyl. The design I used is a purchased Cricut design – Flower Square Coaster #MCDABE4D. I sized it to be a bit smaller than the flat surface of the night light.

I used washi tape for additional security on my mats since they aren’t as sticky as they used to be. This is just a precaution and not necessary for most.

For the next step, weed away all the unwanted vinyl and then apply your transfer tape. The video below will show you how these preparation steps were done.

Video Tutorial:

The finished night light is placed in our downstairs bathroom which is very dark. It stays lit all the time and sets off a beautiful soft blue glow that works really well with the holographic blue vinyl. I am happy with the result and I think the design really adds to the night light.
