Did you know that the Disney Castles are different? Maybe I am the only one that didn't realize it. I have been to two different parks and have seen the castles. Yes, they looked different but I don't go often enough to be able to compare them.
Our last trip to Orlando made me wonder about the castles so I did a little research. I found out the castles are based upon two different designs, Sleeping Beauty's Castle and Cinderella's Castle.
Sleeping Beauty's Castle
Both Anaheim and Hong Kong have castles based upon Sleeping Beauty's Castle. The Hong Kong Castle is based upon the Anaheim Castle but includes Feng Shui into the design. Many consider the Paris Castle to be the best Castle called Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant. It features stained glass windows with images from the movie, a balcony accessible to the public and best of all, an animatronic dragon underneath the castle.
The Cinderella Castle in Orlando is taller than any of the Sleeping Beauty Castles. Both Tokyo and Orlando are based upon Cinderella's Castle. The Orlando Castle includes a small apartment, original conception for Walt's family but was never finished. It is now offered as Cinderella's Bedchamber. The space is about the size of a regular bedroom and bath and can accommodate six people.
Over time, all the castles have transformed by use of paint, lights and even some physical changes. Examples of this would be the current changes in Anaheim for it's 50th year celebration. Below is one of my favorite castle transformations to celebrate Disney World's 25 year celebration. It reminds me of candy!
